A Beautiful Ride with Maggie Holmes Carousel
Hey Magpies, Julie back with you again & this month I was very privileged to work with the lovely new collection ‘carousel’ by Maggie Holmes. Well it’s classic Maggie Holmes, teal, pink, gold, black & white, florals, glitter…. I could go on & on but you only have to look all over social media to see everyone is loving & using it.
For my first layout ‘Love make life a beautiful ride’ I choose to go with the theme of the papers but try to use it in a different way & searched Pinterest to find a quote I could use & came upon this one which I knew would be perfect. I cut the quote on my silhouette & backed it with some of the patterned papers, then I cut out the ferris wheel in co-ordinating cardstock. I used a template to cut the large love word & sewed around the edge of it. It was then just a case of putting all the elements together onto my page, adding some ink splatters & clustering my embellishments at either ends of the love word. A couple of small photos of me & hubby set the tone & I added a exclusive Hey Little Magpie flair badge.
For my second layout ‘Carousel magical moments & happiness’ I threw everything on the page & went full out with the theme of the collection. I wanted to convey the excitement of being on a carousel. I was very lucky this year to holiday in the USA & this carousel was on pier 39 in San Francisco & was stunning & even had an upstairs deck!!!
I first added some mixed media on my page, watercolour paints, texture paste through a stencil & splatters of ink. I added strips of torn papers to the top of the page & put my photo, on a cluster of papers, right at the top, in the middle. I then came down the page adding extra, smaller photos & loads of the stunning embellishments finishing with that gorgeous ticket booth ephemera piece at the bottom. I added another exclusive flair badge, saying ‘such fun’, very apt’ & puffy star stickers from Bella Blvd in bell pepper mix & lots of sequins.
For my final layout ‘Sweet treats’ I wanted to use the large ice cream cart ephemera piece & settled again on a vertical design. I first cut the canopy paper in half & stitched, in lovely ice cream pastel shades, along each line, I then added that onto the B side of the kaleidoscope paper, which I splattered & stamped with a few words. I then picked out all the ephemera & bits & pieces that I thought would go with my page & set about building my clusters around my 2 photos. There are so many bits & bobs in the collection I was spoilt for choice but one of my faves must be those faux enamel badges, they are gorgeous & not to dimensional so fit beautifully onto your page.
I hope you have enjoyed my ramblings today & liked seeing what I created with this fabulous collection. I still have loads left & may even have a few extra bits in my basket, ready to check out, just for hoarding sake J
Until next time xoxo
