A Stitch in Time

I’m one of those people who can’t sew a button on with much success, so I have never even dared venture into the world of sewing machines!!!  But….I have found that I like to hand stitch onto my scrapbook pages, it could be down to the fact that I can attach everything down with tape and it can’t come apart!!

I want to share with you how I go about stitching on my layout with just basic tools, a pencil, ruler, paper piercer and a needle.

First of all I mark along the edge of the cardstock using a ruler, where I want my stitch holes to be.  On this page I chose to mark every 1/2″

Next I go back along my pencil marks with a paper piercer and pierce holes through the cardstock.

Then I thread my needle and do a very basic back stitch securing the thread at the back of the cardstock using double sided tape

Once I’d stitched all the way around the cardstock, I then created the page using the gorgeous My Minds Eye  Lost & Found Two – Sunshine range.  This paper range is even more stunning when its in your hands I can tell you!  I also did my stitching with Bakers Twine in black and white.

I also made a flower on my page using lace, and by taking apart the brad embellishment that has the “19” brad in the centre of it, I re-created my own embellishment.  I took the “19” brad out and separated the other two layers of circle and sun, I put double sided tape on the back of the sun and pleated the lace around, adhering it down as I went.  I then replaced the circle and used the “*heart* you” brad to attach the whole thing together.  It is a very easy way to make the embellishment packs suit your page.

I hope I inspire you to get out those needles and threads even if you’re like me and can’t sew a button to save your life!!
