Bold backgrounds and big titles…

Often one to shy away from bold backgrounds and big titles, upon opening the ephemera pack from the Maggie Holmes Confetti collection, which features an abundance of the most stunning acetate or vellum big titles, bold background were simply a must!

‘Happy Day’ started with the bold background paper from the Brighton Pier collection by Studio Calico – such a cute paper but maybe a tad scary too? By creating a torn edge and adding a contrasting cardstock, the apricots and pinks from the Confetti collection co-ordinated perfectly.

I love the random elements that Maggie Holmes always incorporates into her collections and Confetti is no exception – where else can you mix ice-creams, party hats and pelicans?

In the die-cut ephemera and 6 x 6″ paper pad of course!

The big title ‘happy day’ is a subtle black finish on vellum and works so tonally well with the text on the feature background paper.
‘Darling’ features one of the Kiss Kiss papers, a perfect bold background for a very girly layout!

I simply adore the quirky giraffe in the ephemera pack and created a panel of embellishments including some of the stunning standout ones, to suggest the growing that Nina, now aged 16 would be doing in the future. Here she’s a toddler aged 18 months – dig that fringe!

On acetate, the big title ‘darling‘ is a strong black, bold enough to work with the rest of the black tones in the layout.

By bringing in so many different pink tones, which isolated would normally clash, the layout is overloaded with a multitude of shades that reappear throughout the layout!

Nina is a real Daddy’s girl, so I snuck in a couple of stickers from Studio Calico to record this…
‘Adorable’ uses a big gold title printed onto vellum.

This extra big titled layout needed a bold background too, but not so that it took away from the beautiful text. So using the 6 x 6″ pad, I created a chevron panel, introducing a thinner panel of peachy cardstock with a punched and torn edge detail as featured in the other two layouts.

The small cluster underneath the photos is balanced by the panel of chipboard shapes and standout embellishments at the base of the layout.

So until next time, happy scrapping!
