Clara

Hi!

Sometimes you get stuck and make the same kind of projects over and over again! I felt uninspired and just wanted to get my hands on all those new collections. I believed they would help me to feel inspired again… but then I changed my mind and started to look at older collections. I wanted a real challenge and something that forced me out of my comfort zone. But… I didn’t want anything too difficult! 😀
Studio Calico has always been a favorite of mine. But their newest collections came without me noticing. They didn’t really fit my life… Darcy is school themed and I have no connection to schools right now. Clara is a baby collection. I have no baby right now… but I liked a lot of the elements of the collection. So I decided to make a small kit of papers and decorations from Clara! And challenge myself to just use that kit and as little other things as possible!
How did it go?
I bought some papers (not enough), the ephemera pack, the transparency pack, the pink word stickers and the journaling cards. My plan was to make more decorations out of the cards and the cut apart papers. I did not think this through and the kit felt way too small when I got it! But a challenge is a challenge and I couldn’t fail before I even started.
I went to Pinterest to find inspiration and help! Marcy Penner had made some layouts I thought could work as inspiration. She has a very clean and graphic style… and she often has white cardstock as a base.
The absolute best thing about this collection is that both PL-cards and ephemera has grid patterns on the backside. Different kinds of grids in matching colors. So if you don’t like the front… you can always use the other side! The collections from Seven paper (Studio Calico) has a white base. I often use collections from Crate Paper and they have more of a cream colored base. So even if I wanted to use things from my stash it wasn’t easy to find matching things. But everything gold, wood and black would match. And also items from collections from American Crafts.

First layout: Hi

For this layout I wanted to use circles. My plan was to make circles of the transparent squares. But I didn’t manage to die cut them… they were too thick. So instead I only made circles of the PL-cards, the cut apart paper and some of the decorations in the ephemera pack. I only used pink and orange and red… and some gold. And I needed some more gold… so I took some gold stickers and sequins that wasn’t part of my kit… ooops!

Second layout: Hello love!

For this layout I wanted to use layers. But I didn’t have so many papers. But I took the front and the back of the same paper. And I also took some pieces from a paper from a previous collection from Seven Paper. I really love the yellow in this collection and I bought this yellow paper just because of the color!
I didn’t have any thickers or titles in my little kit. I could have made one with my Silhouette Cameo… but then I saw the wood title from Maggie Holmes – Shine… and it was perfect! The wood feathers are from Freckled Fawn and are adorable!

Third layout: Twinkle

For this layout I wanted to use the bear! I love the bear and bought the PL-cards just to get it! 😀
I designed the layout as a grid and tried to use all the green and all the black in my little kit. Cut apart papers are perfect for grid layouts! The small cards from the transparency pack are not just for babies. Most of them could be used for other things. That is often the case when you buy a themed collection. Not everything is themed. You can make a lot of non-baby-projects with Clara. And the pieces that are very baby-ish could be used for cards or other types of babies. This collection could absolutely work for animal babies too!
