Crate Paper Cute Girl

Have you joined our new Facebook group? You can find us by searching Hey Little Magpie Chat & Inspiration – the perfect place to share pages and crafty chat with likeminded people. Right now the group is launching with challenges all weekend long, one from each of the design team. There are prizes up for grabs so come and join us! The challenges are open for a couple of weeks so even if you can’t find time this weekend you can still have a go.
This month I’ve been working with one of Crate Paper’s new collections – Cute Girl. I love their Cool Kid collection too – both these releases are in my favourites this year for sure. Alongside the very lovely papers there are many gorgeous embellishments – chipboard, vellum, die cuts, puffy stickers, foiled stickers, wood veneer, acetate, resin, rubber…almost any medium you can think of!

I had to add a flamingo to this page of my daughter on her 3rd birthday, posing with her flamingo cake. We went to the beach for the day and had a little birthday lunch on the sand. We got lots of comments on the cake from passers by! This flamimgo came from a Simple Sories collection – You Are Here! I layered up papers from the collection along with some die cuts, stickers and chipboard to frame my photo. The vellum reminded me of confetti, so it felt apt for a birthday page, and I love the texture that the puffy sticker title gives. I used some Nuvo crystal drops in Carnation Pink and Caribbean Blue dotted around the page too.

For my second page I opted for a grid effect design, using two photos, two 3×4 designs (one from the die cut pack and one from the cut apart sheet), and two pieces of patterned paper. I added embellishments and wording so as to link all of the boxes and join everything up so that nothing was “floating” on the page. I turned the little girl doll embellishment into a flying fairy and gave her a wand from the sticker sheet. I adore these photos, they’re full of such joy. She always asks to go “super high” to the clouds, and would happily stay on the swings all day!

I made a third page of my daughter next (I ought to challenge myself to use this collection with photos of someone or something different next time!) but used an older photo, from a couple of weeks after she was born. This was the announcement card we sent out to people, so the text was already printed onto the photo.

I made a background by cutting papers diagonally and mounted on a spare piece of card stock for strength. On top of this I layered my photo and papers, with some printed vellum and the girl card from the die cut pack. My title was made using puffy stickers, chipboard from the 12×12 sheet, and Thickers from American Crafts DIY Shop 4. I also used several little puffy gold heart stickers on all my pages from that DIY Shop collection – an essential! I’m so happy to have this photo scrapped.
