Hi lovely Magpies! Pol here today with my second blog post using Dear Lizzy – New Day. I’m really enjoying using this collection, it’s so bright and colourful, right up my street.
I had a bit of a brainwave for this layout! I always struggle to use the frames ephemera that comes in lots of collections these days, although I have seen some wonderful layouts using them recently. I wanted to use several photos with them but the ones I have printed out are too big to use more than 2 photos on a page. Whilst looking though my photos I came across these mini school photos I had cut off the school photo order forms. Please tell me it’s not just me that keeps them all?! I always order a set of one of the photos but I don’t like throwing the little ‘proof’ photos away! I had no idea what to do with them… until now! They were the perfect size to fit many photos on one page without it feeling too crowded.
I started off with this beautiful ombre paper from the Paige Evans Whimsical collection for my background. There’s lots of lovely ombre and stripy papers in the Whimsical collection that I’m in love with, and they match the New Day collection really well.
First I stuck the frames and tags to the background with foam squares, then I arranged and stuck my photos down with 3D gel glue. I then popped my title on, this is from the Vicki Boutin Field Notes collection, that I had leftover in my stash, as are the black heart stickers. I added some splatters of black ink around the hearts and title.
Then all I had to do was pick out some pieces of ephemera, chipboard stickers, and accent and phrase stickers to tuck in and around my photos and frames. A few puffy stickers later and my layout had come together really easily and quickly by itself. I love it when that happens!
This layout started with the enamel shapes. I absolutely love the rainbow colours and wanted to feature them on my page in some way. I started with Peacock Feathers Distress Oxide and used my silicone make up applicator to apply it in a rough cross shape on my white cardstock. I then matted my cardstock on to the Love Warrior paper, and the Shine Bright paper, which matched the enamel shapes really well. I also matted my photo onto the Love Warrior paper, and chose 6 other papers that coordinated to layer behind my photo. I adhered the photo and layers in the centre of the Distress Oxide ‘cross’ shape using foam pads.
I used the enamel shapes as arrows to draw attention to my photo, in the same ‘cross’ shape. I used a gorgeous paper from Webster’s Pages for the fussy cut leaves and bird – Falling Leaves, from the new Changing Colors collection. The paper is ideal for fussy cutting as the leaves are simple to cut and don’t overlap, and there’s tons of them on the paper! I can see myself using these leaves and birds on every layout now, hehe.
I tucked the fussy cut leaves behind and around my photo, along with some of the Dear Lizzy accent and phrase stickers, trying to leave (geddit? haha!) the beautiful enamel shapes as visible as possible. I also added a few of the puffy stickers, I can’t resist puffy stickers on most of my layouts.
I really hope you’re enjoying my layouts. lovely Magpies, I’ll be back next month using the gorgeous Cocoa Vanilla Midnight collection.
