Every summer has a story

Hello, Jo here with my first Hey Little Magpie blog post. I choose to work with the Simple Stories ‘Good Day Sunshine’ collection in my three projects and add bits from the new Fancy Pants ‘Burlap & Bouquets’ collection, the Chic Tags ‘Lets Go’ tab embellishments and a range of Studio Calico essentials already in my stash.
The first project I worked on was a Project Life spread using the Simple Stories ‘SN@P! Studio – Good day Sunshine’ cards. I have a thing for woodgrain and the dark woodgrain on their 12×12 paper ‘Beach Wood / Ledger was perfect. I simply trimmed it into 4×6 pieces for use as the larger insert cards. I’ve been doing Project Life since 2012 and have fallen into ‘my style’ over the years. Having the same background cards in those larger spots works well for me and allows me to have fun with the smaller 3×4 insert cards while still keeping the overall spread cohesive.

I picked this gorgeous 4×6 card from the pack for my week header and added an old label from my stash, stamped it with the dates and used some thickers from Amy Tangerine. Here’s the full spread with some extra embellishments from my stash by Pebbles, Studio Calico, Freckled Fawn and Chic Tags, and letter stickers by Maggie Holmes for Crate Paper.

My second project is a summer mini album about our recent holiday in Bude, Cornwall. I have been wanting to use the WRMK 4×4 Instagram album for a while and this project gave me the perfect excuse!

The outside is embellished with products from Studio Calico; cork hearts, letter stickers and some old word stickers.

Throughout my album I used the Simple Stories ‘SN@P! Insta Squares – Good Day Sunshine’, Simple Stories ‘Good Day Sunshine’ enamel dots,  WRMK 2×2 pockets, WRMK 4×4 pockets, Studio Calico Wanderlust word stickers (aswell as an older set of word stickers), tab embellishments by Chic Tags ‘Let’s Go’, a couple of tickets from Fancy Pants ‘Burlap & Bouquets’, plus cork embellishments by Studio Calico and heart stickers by Pebbles. Here’s just some of the pages in my mini album, let’s just say that it didn’t end up quite so mini!

As you can see I mixed a range of photo sizes in the album, from 2×2 to 4×4 and also enlarged some to 4×6 and 4×16 and trimmed them to fit into the pockets. To accommodate the large 4×16 photo I trimmed down a large photo protector which originally would have held 4 x 4×6 photos per side, making the two fold out protectors from that one large protector.
Finally, for my third project this month I made a layout about the handmade gifts I made and gave to my boys teachers this year.

I used the Fancy Pants Me-ology paper ‘Painterly’ as the background, some more of that woodgrain paper and enamel dots by Simple Stories, a text sheet from the 6×6 paper pad by American Craft ‘DIY Shop’, tickets and a flair from Fancy Pants ‘Burlap & Bouquets’, a card from Crate Paper ‘Oh Darling’ collection, a tab from the Chic Tags pack, a label from Maggie Holmes and thickers by American Crafts.
I hope you’ve enjoyed looking at my projects, sorry about the photo overload, that’s the trouble with mini albums!
Oh and one last thing…
