Fancy Pants Good Fellows

I had the joy of working with the Fancy Pants Good Fellows collection this month, which is based on a colour palette of green, pale blue and orange with neutrals. There are lots of really usable patterns in the papers of this collection, and in particular I love the heaxagons, stripes and big spots. There’s also a really gorgeous print of black arrows on dark kraft cardstock which compliments the range really well. Embellishments include the emphemera pack, puffy stickers, flair, wood veneer, alphabet stickers and washi tape.
The Good Fellows line has a theme of fathers/dads running through it, which I took as my starting point for this first page, featuring a photo of my husband and son happily digging away at the beach earlier this year. I cut triangular strips of various patterned papers (by first cutting to 6×6″ and then making diagonal cuts) from the collection and arranged them into a circlular shape as if bursting from the centre of the page. After sticking the papers down I added some thin glitter washi tape and some dots of copper Nuvo crystal drops between some of the strips.

I backed the photo with white cardstock and then a darker kraft which makes it pop visually from the page, and mounted it on foam pads to make it literally pop! Die cuts from the Good Fellows ephemera pack were arranged around my photo – this pack has a great mixture of pieces that are on a dad theme (Like the “like father like son” strip and “father son time” banner) and some more general pieces like hearts, crosses, and semicircles. A couple of the die cut bits I used here are from the Cocoa Vanilla Totally Rad collection, and the wooden/enamel button is from the Hello Sunshine set. Some puffy stickers from fancy pants (shapes and multisized dots) add a lovely dimension and variation in texture to the final page – they’ve got a great shine on them.


I wanted to create another page using lots of different patterned papers again, but also keeping a reasonably clean and simple feel to the page and not overwhelming this newborn photo of my son, which was the first photo I have of him with his eyes open. I decided to create a large custom title, taking up half of my page, and using lots of patterns. As I dont have a die cutting machine I drew out a rough grid in which to write my title (handily composed of three 3 letter words, making the maths a bit easier!) and hand drew each letter to be the same size. I didn’t mind too much if this was a bit rough or uneven, but if that is something that would bother you, you could create templates by printing large letters from Word or similar. I cut the letters out with a craft knift, and backed each apeture with a different paper from the Good Fellows collection (and two from Simple Stories Sunshine & Happiness – the N and Y designs).

I added a couple of papers behind my photo, and added die cuts, flair, puffy stickers, and Nuvo crystal drops. I really love this metallic copper shade, and for a generally “non messy” scrapper like me its a very easy way to add something different to my pages. I’ll definitely be getting a few more in different shades – the finish on them is gorgeous. I wrote my journalling straight onto the background cardstock, and placed it so as to join up the photo side of the page and the title side of the page.


 
I’m usully drawn towards the brighter or girlier collections in scrapbook releases, but I really enjoyed creating with this line, and I found it very usable. Fancy Pants papers are a joy to use and have a lovely texture to them, and I love the embellishments that coordinate.
