Fifty shades of (Basic) Grey – 'Barista' from Basic Grey

No, I haven’t read the book but I did buy the Collection Pack and got fifty gorgeous shades of …… vanilla, mocha, black, white, grey, sweet caramel, cream, butter yellow … I could go on because there’s every warm autumnal hue you could possible want in this collection.
Funnily enough , despite its name – Barista – I didn’t consider doing a coffee layout ( I tend to drink it rather than photograph it ) but the colours lends themselves to just about any themed layout you could possible want. Those clever people at Basic Grey have done it again  – one fabulous palette of delicious flavours colours – is it just me that sees scrapbook papers as food for the eyes ?

So, first up is a layout of my youngest off to Sixth Form College. Any mum of teens will know that a doorstep snap of the first day or term in new school uniform is WAY TOO UNCOOL at that age ( more’s the pity ) So I had to content myself with a sneaky snap as he peddled down the road without him knowing I was taking a photograph – hence he’s just a spec in the distance . I loved the leaf paper – Espresso, which lends itself to fussy cutting ( note to BG –  ephemera pack next time please ) . I echoed the Autmnal hues with some stamping and a couple of phrases from Pink Fresh Studios Happy Things range – Just Be You and Be Yourself – coupled with some of their wood veneer stickers and some enamel dots from the Basic Grey Barista range.

I printed the journalling with my laser printer onto vellum so that I could use my Minc machine and gild it with golden loveliness , with a pale green watercolour wash behind to echo the colours in the photos.

There are so many lovely patterns in the Barista range and I wanted to showcase a few so I used them to create a shelf of books for a layout about reading –  aptly titled Too Many Books , Too little Time . Is it only me that spots wonky things ( squinty letter’A’ in the title ) only AFTER photographing them ?! I used my Silhouette Cameo to cut the title, backed with some of the Mocha paper from the range which looks like hessian , then used the cut out in the top left corner .

I found that black and white photos worked best with this range and its so easy to convert them these days on whatever editing software you may have. The monochrome colours in this collection really compliment B & W photos if you add a touch of gold.
I’m sometimes guilty of defaulting to my favourite background – white card stock. So it’s good to find a sheet in a collection pack that works well as a background without detracting from the photos and this one is perfect – Barista – Hot Chocolate Paper.

Again, it works well with B&W photos and a touch of gold.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE these Thickers –  they’re gold and skinny and puffy – my favourite three things in an embellishment – Dear Lizzy Documentary – Gold Foil Puffy Thickers.

Lots of useful stickers in the Elements Sticker sheet – including a rather spooky eye which I resolved to fit in somewhere !

Another good background paper is the Americano paper, which I’ve used in this next layout. It’s good to have the chance to get away from just using plain card stock as a background. Incidentally the layout’s title does NOT refer t0 me or my singing ( the pictures were taken at A Rock Choir Concert I took part in ) but the venue and the event!!

The yellows in the Barista range are easily complimented with gold accents. Here I used some gold acetates from WE R Memory Keepers Clearly Posh range – there are a whopping 45 in the pack and they’re so useful to tuck into every nook and cranny.
Lastly, I finished off the pack ( it feels SO good to kill a whole collection pack in one hit ! ) with a layout using some more leaves cut from the Espresso paper and used the Dear Lizzy Documentary – Gold Foil Puffy Thickers over the blank space in the photo.
