Getting Whimsical with Pink Paislee!

Hey Magpies, it’s Rachel here using the Whimsical collection by Paige Taylor Evans for Pink Paislee to kick off December! I can’t believe it’s December can you? Where did the year go? I’m sure it’s actually April and someone is playing a trick on me with the calendars….. and the weather!
I picked the Whimsical collection to work with this month because of the colours. I do like working with bright colours! Unfortunately at the moment, a lot of the collection is out of stock but there will be more arriving any day now. So if you want some, please sign up on the site to be notified by email when it’s back in stock and you’ll be the first to know when it’s back again. It will be back, don’t worry!
So I was immediately drawn to Paper #16 with the lush rainbow colours on it. I saw that paper when this line sneaked and immediately wanted it to make a border with. So that was the first thing I did, cut strips and make a border! Then I decided to take it another step further and do a coordinating rainbow of Nuvo dots too. This was a labour of love, it took quite a while, it was hard to do such tiny little dots so I could keep each colour beside the coordinating stripe. But it worked and I was thrilled with the result, it was worth all the effort!
Originally I had this LO together with just the cloud paper, which is 2 sheets from the 6×6 Paper Pad stuck together, and the stripes above and below. But it wasn’t sitting right so I decided to add a painted rainbow under the papers and dug out some watercolour paints to paint that super quick. I did it on a separate piece of cardstock because I was paranoid of messing up my border!
My title I wanted to be super colourful too, so I went digging in the Thickers stash and pulled out any super colourful  ones. I had used the Mini Foam Alphabet Thickers for the words ‘on a rainy day’ but they were really getting lost on the background paper, so I just coloured them black with a Sharpie. Then I set about embellishing with lots of the crafty embellishments that are in this collection. I was thinking along the lines of, I can be the rainbow by crafting with awesome bright colours, that always brightens my day up anyway. So I’ve used bits from the Puffy Stickers pack, check out that awesome scalloped banner under the title, how cool is that! The bunting banner up the top is from the Chipboard Icon Thickers pack and I also used some of the Enamel Dots & Shapes. I was chuffed with how bright and colourful this LO turned out in the end!

This next LO makes me laugh so much! In case you can’t read the journalling it’s about how we went to golf and halfway down the first fairway the rain started, then the sleet, then the SNOW! It was so cold, I was freezing and totally miserable. I’m from New Zealand remember, I’m not used to this cold stuff. I know, I know, I’ve been here 20 years now, I should be used to it but I’m not lol! So I came home from that golfing trip and promptly ordered thermals, coats, warm gloves, earmuffs and a hat. I am so grumpy in this photo!
I picked out the coral Paper #6 to make a border as it matched my photo well. Then I sewed around the edge. I had actually built up all the layers of 6×6 Paper behind my photo and I actually had it sitting on the cloud paper (Paper #15) for a few days and it just didn’t look right. So I decided to put it on black and that didn’t work either but white did, the photo popped much better. I added the yellow stripe Paper #9 in as well because I wanted my title to sit all contained on the panel and I needed some extra width.
I made a quick mixed media background with the Vicky Boutin Watercolour Crayons and it was so easy, all I did was swoosh the apricot crayon over my cardstock and then wiped over it with a baby wipe. Super simple! Then I added some extra thick embossing paste to give the impression of snow & rain. I also used Vicki Boutin Feild Notes along with some old Bella Blvd alphabets for my title and then the puffy lemon from Pinkfresh Studios, Simple & Sweet Puffy Stickers was totally perfect to portray exactly how much suckery was going on that day! Some of the clouds from the 6×12″ Cardstock Sticker sheet and also the Sticker Book and I mounted them on foam pads.

I had the same problem that I had with the LO above with this one too. I wanted to put this photo on the lovely light blue floral Paper #4 but I just couldn’t make it work. Then I swapped it on to black cardstock and bada-bing, hello, now it’s popping! So my advice is, if you’re struggling with a LO and it’s just not working for you, try a different background as sometimes that will solve the problem.
So this is a super simple LO, just some bits of paper on a plain background lol! I used the cool coloured circles Paper #20, a thin strip of my favourite rainbow stripe Paper #16 and an offcut of the yellow striped Paper #9. I also added in an extra little sliver of the yellow striped paper from the 6×6 Paper Pad down the side of the photo to help balance things. I did a multicoloured Nuvo Dots border, matching the colours to the spots on Paper #20. I used Party Pink, English Mustard, Double Denim, Rhubarb Crumble, Apple Green, Dandelion YellowPlum Pudding and Caribbean Ocean. It totally is a labour of love doing so many colours on a border, I have lots of little glass jars that I put the Nuvo bottles in upside down and use them in order, then put them back upside down in the jar again. My title is from the Vicki Boutin, Field Notes Thickers but they’re out of stock now unfortunately sorry!
I embellished with some of the Enamel Dots & Shapes, the little leaves are from the Chipboard Icons Thickers and then I used some of the Pinkfresh Studios, Indigo Hills 2 Phrase Stickers because they just fit better than anything else. That darling little green banner above my photo is from the Whimsical Puffy Stickers and how freaking cute is it! I could use about a million of those I am sure.

My last LO was actually the first one I made and seriously, making a LO in this grid style could not be easier! I used Whimsical Paper #19 which I immediately cut apart when I got it. Then I laid out a loose and easy grid and just stuck it down. It’s easier to do a loose grid then you don’t have to worry about it being absolutely perfect and lined up etc. Put some on an angle and eyeball it, she’ll be right mate! I also cut apart both Paper #8 to get all the word banners and then Paper #18 to get the word strips too. I used some of both on this LO and have the rest out in a shallow dish on my desk to pick through and find appropriate ones. I made my title from some word strips and also the ‘You + Me’ is from Cocoa Vanilla, Midnight Die-Cut Titles and I mounted that on foam pads.
I embellished with some of the Whimsical Floral Die-Cuts and also added those on foam pads for height. Then I got out the Whimsical Rub-Ons and liberally used those. I finished off with some Enamel Dots & Shapes and Puffy Stickers.

This is what I came up with using the Whimsical Collection. It’s a great collection, lots of colours to use and there’s loads of embellishments which I love, I use far more embellishments than paper usually. If you haven’t already joined our Facebook Chat & Inspiration Group please sign up to join and check out the sketch challenge I will have going up a little later on today. I have used the Whimsical collection to make my example for that too. And also check out our Instagram Page too, lots of lovely eye candy on there to ogle at! I will see you bright and early on New Years day Magpies, I will wish you all a wonderful holiday season and hope you all have a great Christmas! And remember if you’re stuck for a gift idea for a crafty friend, or what to ask for yourself, there’s always Gift Vouchers available and they’re super simple and you get an email so they’re super easy, especially if you’ve left it too late to get someone something…. not that I’ve ever had to take advantage of that feature….. *wink*
