Hello Summer

It’s no secret that I adore almost all products produced by Simple Stories, but their “Good Day Sunshine” line might just be my favourite yet. Such a rich, bright and summery colour palette, combined with a gorgeous deep wood effect – I love it! So much so, that I just went ahead and ordered the whole collection pack.

The collection pack includes full 12×12 patterned papers, cut apart papers, element stickers, alphabet stickers and a bonus product exclusive to the pack – photo overlays. The 6 designs you get in with this range are all gorgeous! I used my favourite one on my first page – this overlay is slightly different to the rest (which are more graphic/text based) in that the whole 6×4 piece is tinted so it’s a bit like applying a filter to your photo but without having to actually edit it pre-printing. It means that the tones in your photo match with the tones in the papers perfectly. The blues in my original photo were much cooler and starker than they now appear. Such a quick and easy transformation!

I layered up elements from the cut apart sheets under my photo, which is up on foam pads to help it stand out. A few stickers from the collection, some washi tape and a scattering of wood veneer, cork stars and enamel dots draw the eye across the page. A favourite photo from the summer, my favourite overlay and my favourite 12×12 sheet for the background means that this page just makes me smile!

This second page features a photo of a place that was new to me this summer. We spent a week in Dorset on the coast and I was blown away by the beauty of the area. It really made me appreciate what wonderful and varied scenery we have here in the UK. Durdle door is a natural sea arch in sparkling blue waters next to a golden sand beach and reached by a picturesque coastal path. You’d be forgiven for thinking you were somewhere far more exotic! I hand cut a variety of sized circles from my white cardstock and placed pieces of patterned paper behind the windows. Then I added my photo and other embellishments above, mostly raised off the page to add further dimension. I loved the viewfinder sticker and with the words “enjoy the view” it was perfect for this page.

Finally I chose another summery photo as there were a few elements in the pack that I knew I definitely wanted to get onto a page. I adore the design of the camera image that is used repeatedly in the collection so out came a “selfie” to make good use of it. I hope I’m not the only one that likes to take an ice cream selfie when on holiday! The ice cream van and the cone, along with the camera, gave me a lovely visual triangle around the page.

I’ve used this basic design before – a 10×10″ square placed onto a background sheet (diagonal stripes are a favourite for this type of page) with the majority of elements on the square but a triangle of pieces that overhang. It’s one I always come back to and I always enjoy making a page based on this sketch. I featured a couple of cards from the cut apart sheets – how gorgeous is the “hello summer” and the hearts?! Love those so much!

I thoroughly enjoyed using Simple Stories Good Day Sunshine, and I will definitely be using the rest of the collection on further projects, but that’s it from me this month, see you next month!
