Indigo & Ivy – Pink Paislee – Philippa McCray

Hi there Magpies!

I’m having fun this month playing with the new Indigo & Ivy collection by Pink Paislee. I love the subtle colours and the mix of florals, butterflies, leaves, stripes and so much more! The embellishments and ephemera are just gorgeous! I also got my hands on the beautiful Paper Fashion gouache paint Set 1 by American Crafts. I can’t resist a bit of mixed media on my layouts!

For my first layout I wanted to document a day in London. My youngest daughter is home from Australia for a holiday. We haven’t seen her for two years so it’s been an emotional time and we’re packing in as much as we can!

I started by painting six blocks of colour using the gouache paints in Sea Water Blue mixed with Dancing Clouds. The blocks were roughly 3×4 but I wasn’t being precise! I then decided to add some some splatters and texture using a stencil. I sorted through the Ephemera Die Cut pack and pulled out some frames, flowers and tags. I also had the Cardstock Stickers and knew I’d be using those too.

I played around with the composition and when I was happy started sticking things down, raising up some of the ephemera on sticky pads. I added some stitching to hold down ‘Fun’ and added a sprinkle of sequins from the Mixed Embellishment pack . There are some wood embellishments included in the pack and I stuck a little heart on to a peg from my stash. I tucked in a few threads, added some gold splatters, edged some of the ephemera pieces in gold and my layout was complete!

For my second layout I again used the gouache paints. I chose Pink Rose mixed with a little Dancing Clouds and painted a rough block . Gouache is similar to watercolour but it has an opaque finish. I use watercolour and acrylic paints as well and they all sit happily together on my layouts! You can come back to a splodge of gouache even after it’s dried on the palette and rework it. I picked up some of the blue I’d used on my previous layout and added a few brush strokes of that too. I also added splatters in Natural Earth.

I don’t usually scrap a large size photo but I love this pic of my daughter and her Grandma, it was a very emotional reunion!

I liked the phrase Stay Golden which appears on one of the stickers and I decided on that for my title. I wanted to use the gorgeous Foiled Speciality Paper so I die cut some butterflies and delicate branches and a strip for the lhs of the page. I fussy cut some of the clusters from Paper 4 and used the branding strip. I built up the border in layers and popped in a few sequins.

I used the Speciality Paper and Paper 4 to mat my photo.

I used letters from the Indigo Foam Alphabet Stickers and gold letters from my stash. I finally added some gold ink splatters.

I love this collection and some of the items I’ve used are currently out of stock, it’s so popular! Don’t worry keep checking for restocks!

I’ll be back later this month for more projects using this collection and I think I’ll be using my new gouache paints for quite a while!

Until the next time Happy Scrapping
