Make A Wish with Cocoa Vanilla Studio

I was so pleased when I opened up my pizza box of goodies this month. I’d chosen a selection of products from Cocoa Vanilla’s Make A Wish collection and oh my, it’s so pretty! It looks nice online, but it’s even more gorgeous in real life. I was thrilled to get to work with these products.
I really wanted to showcase the large floral paper, and was tempted just to stick it up on my wall as a 12×12 sheet, but after dismissing that idea I chose to create a page with just one small photo on it. I used an Instax mini print, taken on a holiday earlier this year of my daughter and niece on the beach. The image is pretty overexposed, as it was so sunny, but actually I think that works okay for capturing the feeling of the moment.

I used a 5×11″ strip of the large floral design and a thinner strip either side, and placed my photo on top. Then I played around with die cuts, both cardstock and vellum, until I was happy with the placement. The doily came from the Bits & Pieces mixed embellishment pack which has all sorts in including sequins, gems, pegs, bows, tags, buttons and tassels. Such a great assortment of pieces to add to your pages. I used some Nuvo drops in dandelion yellow to cover a wooden heart from the wood veneer shapes pack, and added a few other touches until it felt “done”.

My second page features another beach photo, from a separate occasion. This time a British beach and on the day of my daughter’s 3rd birthday. She and her older brother had such fun burying each other’s feet in the sand, and happily played at this game for ages! I cut my 6×4″ photo down to a 4″ square, mounted it and placed it on top of the background which was white cardstock at the bottom and the top half this lovely diamond paper design.

I layered up my embellishment all the way across the page, covering the join of the background papers entirely. The dress she’s wearing in the photo has big flowers all over it, so I used a couple of the die cut flowers to echo that. A rose gold number 3 (I used thickers from the Pink Paislee Birthday Bash colelction, which are out of stock, but there are other rose gold thickers available – it’s such a lovely shade) and a happy birthday strip from the sticker sheet remind the viewer that this was a birthday day out, despite it not necessarily being obvious from the photo. Chipboard elements and puffy stickers add a variety of textures to the page. I especially love puffy stickers for this, and am so pleased that they’re becoming available in more collections at the moment. A definite favourite of mine.

How gorgeous is that tassle?! I adore it! It can be found in the bits & pieces mixed embellishment pack.
For my third page a more obvious birthday page. This is a collection with a subtle birthday theme running through it after all. This time going back to my little girl’s first birthday, and one of my very favourite photos of her from that day looking super cute! I wanted to make a really gorgeous background for this photo, so I punched loads of circles in various sizes from several of the patterned papers in the collection, and I covered the entire 12×12 cardstock sheet in them. I’m so pleased with the overall effect, and by adding a plain white border to my photo and attaching it with foam dots it doesn’s get lost in the busy background.

I layered on top quite a few other circular embellishments, including stickers, wood veneer, vellum pieces, one of the lovely flair buttons badges, sequins from the mixed pack, some spots of nuvo crystal drops in various colours, and some sparkles enamel dots which are such glorious colours! The big make a wish piece with the candles on is punched from the cut apart paper sheet.

I cut out the main part of my title from the text design patterned paper, and used some the thickers again too. A sparkly sequiny bow seemed the perfect addition to this uber girly layout. I love this collection. It’s got such pretty colours, beautiful florals, a vast selection of embellishments and lots of cute birthday touches that will be very useful for lots more pages without being overwhelmingly themed. As always we’d love to see what you make. Post us a comment here or show us your creations on Facebook or Instagram.
