Mwah to Urban Chic

Hi Magpies, September already, where are these months going to?? But on the plus side there are lots of yummy new collections coming into the shop daily & we’re spoilt for choice at what to craft with. This month I chose to use a new collection by We R Memory Keepers Urban Chic, a lovely collection of reds, pinks, turquoise & even a touch of purple, which I sometimes struggle with but embraced this time. The collection includes a lot of city landmarks & a big reference to make-up, which having two teenagers, is what I chose to focus on.
My first layout ‘just wing it…life, eyeliner, everything’ is using photos of my youngest child. She has perfected the art of applying eyeliner & does a great job, so I managed to get a photo & printed it twice in colour & black & white. I used some mixed media, on some white cardstock, inks, mists & texture paste before laying some papers down vertically & adding some patterned paper circles. I stitched a semi circle on the top left as I knew I wanted part of my title going up there. I ripped the bottom of the paper & layered it up with a few more papers from the collection, adding a doily & some bits of lace & finishing with that fab vogue paper with mascara wands on it… perfect. I put one photo at the top & one bottom left & added bit of ephemera from the die-cut shapes & 6×12 sticker sheet. For the title I used the alphabet thickers & a cut from my silhouette cameo.

My next layout ‘Mwah’ I got very messy with some acrylic paint. I’ve only ever used this paint to add to wood veneer, etc but after looking on pinterest thought I’d give something else a try. I took a piece of black cardstock into the garden, on some newspaper & sprinkled, from a height, the paint onto the card in a haphazard way. I waited for one colour to dry, overnight, before adding the second colour. I just love the effect it gives & just needed a touch of Heidi Swapp gold colorshine to give it some sparkle. Because of the busyness of the paper I kept the rest of the layout fairly simple, for me!! I cut out some large lips, from the kiss kiss paper, & a few smaller ones. I stitched the black cardstock to the rest of the kiss kiss paper, after distressing the edges, & added my photo, on a paper cluster, & the rest of the lips around the photo. I stamped the word mwah on the background paper & used the thickers again for my title.

For my last layout ‘A Smile is the best make-up any girl can wear’ I wanted to use up all the bits & pieces in this collection that were all about make-up. I came up with the idea of a make-up bag with all the make-up spilling out so needed to add a zip!!! Now this took me quite some time to fathom out how I’d do this but I managed in the end. I used the B side of the wink wink paper & sewed the zip vertically on the left hand side, I then ripped off the excess & layered the 5th Ave paper under it. I then went to town layering up all the bits of ephemera that had anything to do with make-up, I was lucky that my daughter had just purchased some new make-up so I pinched the packaging from that & that got used as well. The title is a mix of the thickers, a silhouette cut & the tile alphabet off the sticker sheet, a few sprinkles of gold mist finished the layout
