New Day by Dear Lizzy

Hi Magpies, Pol here with my very first blog post! I’m so excited to be on this amazing team and couldn’t wait to get stuck in! I haven’t been doing as much scrapping as I’d like recently, so this was just what I needed to kick start my mojo.
Today I’m bringing you two new layouts with the colourful new collection from Dear Lizzy – New Day. I absolutely love using bright colours so I was drawn to this collection immediately.

Be Here Now

I did cheat slightly because my background paper is from Paige Evans Whimsical collection for Pink Paislee, Paper #16, but it fitted my layout perfectly as it wasn’t too overwhelming with all the other bright colours. The colours in the Whimsical collection marry perfectly with Dear Lizzy New Day. I loved the stripey side so much I decided to keep the barcode strip on the bottom of the paper.
I’m very into using black card at the moment to mat my layouts and photos, especially with brightly coloured papers, as I think it makes them really pop.
As soon as I saw all the cactus and plant ephemera in the collection, I knew that I wanted to use this cut file from the Silhouette Store. I carefully backed it with some of the beautiful New Day papers – Be You, Big Love, Brave Spirit, Gather Goodness, Hello Happiness, and Wonder.

Once my cut file was backed, I used foam squares to adhere it at the bottom of my page, leaving room to tuck my photos behind at the top. I used the ‘Be Here Now’ piece from the ephemera pack as my title and adhered it between my two photos to create some symmetry. I then used more pieces of ephemera, accent and phrase stickers, and chipboard stickers, in and around my cut file to create depth and interest. I couldn’t resist tucking those cute giraffes behind the plants to look like they were peeking out!
Finally, I added some of the butterfly puffy stickers and a butterfly ephemera to complete the page.

For my second layout I used the Be Present and Be You papers. I used the Be Present paper to mat my white cardstock, and then adhered this at an angle onto the Be You paper, to create some visual interest. I then ripped the edges of my white cardstock in places so the paper underneath showed.
I added some colour to my plain white cardstock with Peacock Feathers Distress Oxide. I took the plastic packaging from the stickers and stamped the distress oxide on it, then gently sprayed with water to dilute the colour. I’ve recently learnt a new trick for the packaging technique, where you use a silicone make up applicator to apply the ink instead of a scrunched up plastic wrap. It gives a more solid cover, rather like a watercolour wash, and you can create some great splats with it.
I matted my photo with the Be You paper, and stuck it on my page over the larger area of distress oxide. I then tucked some of the frames from the ephemera pack behind my matted photo, and in a smaller area of colour on the opposite side of the page. I tucked some more ephemera pieces and stickers behind and around my photo.

I used the ephemera numbers for my title, and adhered them on the opposite side of my page to the photo, to create balance. Finally, I added a few of the puffy stickers and my page was finished.
Thanks for reading, I’ll be back towards the end of the month with some more layouts using Dear Lizzy New Day.
