New mask, old stash.

Hello, this is Louise with my first post for the new Hey Little Magpie blog. I have taken a break from scrapping for a few months due to a busy schedule, and when I went to browse the store to choose what I wanted to work with, my mojo was a little overwhelmed with all the choice. I decided to ease myself back into things slowly, choosing only a mask to use with some of my old stash… of which I have an obscene amount!
This gorgeous Teresa Collins mask caught my eye straight away, even though it’s a little more fancy than I would usually go for. On my first LO I created a partial background onto white card stock using a selection of mists. I used scrap paper to block off the areas I didn’t want the ink to go on.

 
Even though I really liked the subtle result, I can never just leave it at one layer…

so I added a bit of stamping using a selection of stamps from different manufacturers..

And some washi tape…

 
Once I was happy with my background I selected some embellishments by American Crafts and Freckled Fawn, and a selection of papers that I possibly wanted to use… you’ve probably gathered that I don’t really approach scrapping with a set plan of what I want to create!


 
After a bit of paper shuffling and choosing, discarding and re-selecting embellishments I completed this LO which tells the story of the fab photo of my crazy Thing 3 and his friend.

My next LO is much brighter and chaotic to capture the essence of the Manchester Colour Run that me and Thing 1 took part in this year.

I used hairspray before misting with vibrant colours  on to wite card, and sprinkled with clear embossing powder whilst still wet. This creates a really lovely subtle textured effect, that is really difficult to see in photos.

The LO was completed with a mix of bright washi tapes, a gorgeous wood veneer frame, a cute little paper clip an a mix of thickers (which is a great way to use up all those part sets we all have).
My final LO uses some gorgeous cork paper as the background… I have had this for so long, and never been sure how to use it. I think the contrast of the misted white card against the cork is just perfect. When I misted the card I directed the mist from the one side to get a gradated effect.

I used washi tape on the cork embellishment and a sentiment roller stamp over the top. The little cup was made from scraps of paper and outlined with a black pen.

After working on these LOs my mojo has been fired up and I am ready to jump back in with both feet.  If you ever feel like you’ve lost your way with scrapping, or feel overwhelmed by all the products that are available, have a go at limiting yourself to just one new tool that you can use with some of your old products… it’s guaranteed to wet your whistle.
