Oh so Dreamy…

Good morning and happy Thursday to you, albeit a little wet and chilly for an August summers day. It’s Niki here with my first Creative Team projects for Hey Little Magpie and I chose to work with the Heidi Swapp collection ‘Dreamy’. I really love the mix of pinks, blues/turquoises, kraft and yellow, which is not a combination I ever thought would work but it is absolutely gorgeous.
Not only are the ‘Dreamy’ papers very dreamy, so are a lot of the embellishments in the collection too. I chose the Glitter Frames and the Kraft Tags as well as the Memory Files Kit and am kicking myself for not buying the Ephemera Pack too (what was I thinking?!). For the ‘Pink Princess’ layout, I cut up a memory file and used it as a paper layer and then spread four tags across the page. I added the eyelets and cord from my own stash to each of them. I think it’s great they they don’t come with holes in them because then you have the option to add them if you want to but you don’t have to. I’ve added a few more paper layers using the a strip of pink dotty paper and several Project Life from the Kiwi Sampler kit.  I have a whole load of PL cards, none of which I actually use in my Project Life. I find them a really quick and easy way to add colour and extra layers to my layouts without feeling guilty about cutting into a large piece of 12×12 paper. The sampler kits are great for this as they are really good value and there are no repeats – yey!
I’ve also used a set of Technique Tuesday word stamps on all my layouts in this post. I love the handwriting craze and I’m not confident enough in my own handwriting to write largely on a layout so these stamps are so perfect for me. For this layout I chose to stamp ‘love this’ several times over on two areas of the layout.

In the Memory Files Kit there is also a little photo book that is waterfall style and flips up to reveal additional pages/photo spaces. I used this on this ‘Lots of Laughs’ layout to include loads of photos of my little Max laughing as he was being tickled. I loved the expressions he pulled and wanted to include all the photos I took and this was a great way of doing so without overcrowding the layout. I’ve used several paper layers beneath the waterfall photo book, including more PL cards with a long strip at the bottom to anchor it all together.

Max

I’d already cut up a Memory File and used the little flip up book that came in the kit, so for this next layout, ‘Willows’ I decided to take the largest memory file, stick it together and simply use it flat as a paper layer. I wanted the ‘choose happy’ to show so I built my layout down in the bottom right corner. There are no photos hidden, the memory file in this case is purely for decoration. When there are five quite large memory files in a kit, five interactive layouts might be a bit overwhelming, so this is a great way to use one that you don’t want to get interactive with. I love the ‘choose happy’ and the cut out tab part at the top and don’t feel that I at all wasted this file, even though this perhaps wasn’t its original purpose.

‘Roxy Happy’ is interactive. I really like that the memory files are different orientations as this provides scope for several totally different layouts even though they feature the same product.  This time I’ve built my layout on top of the memory file which opens out to reveal several more photos and my journaling hidden inside.

‘One boring day…’ is also interactive. This time the memory file folds down. This memory file was huge so I had to add a lot to fill it, almost like doing three layouts on one! It wasn’t however quite as big as it looks because of the shaped edges, and that I wanted ‘life is beautiful’ on the front to remain on show. My layout on the front is therefor actually really tiny, all anchored down at the bottom of the page, but inside I’ve included five more photos. I’ve used more tags, more PL cards and a glittered frame too.

and finally, I made one final layout without a memory file as I didn’t have any left (!) but I wanted to use more of the glitter frames and the rest of the stickers I had. This layout is on a background paper by Chic Tags, the ‘Cloud Nine’ collection. This paper has gold accents and is very pretty.

I really enjoy working with a specific set of supplies because I find that this means I stop rummaging around in my stash looking for the perfect embellishment. I’ve kept to certain things throughout all these layouts, all of which I’ve linked below. You’ll notice that the same embellishments are repeated on several of these layouts which makes creating really easy and quick because I know that I’ve picked out those particular embellishments and I limit myself to using those and only those – give it a try…

Technique Tuesday ‘Classic Ali Edwards clear Stamps

Heidi Swapp ‘Dreamy’: ‘Choose Happy’, ‘Dreams Come True’, ‘Dots’, ‘Life is Beautiful’, ‘Pink Dream’ papers, Word Jumble Stickers, Glitter Frames, Kraft Tags, Memory Files Kit.

Chic Tags ‘Cloud Nine‘: ‘Celebrate’, ‘Goodness’, ‘Sunday Best’ & ‘Lovely’ papers, Acetate Tidbits, Wood Veneer Sequins & ‘Bloom’ shapes, and Mini Icons.

Project Life Core Kit Samplers: Kiwi & Strawberry

Thank you so much for staying with me through this epic post – I really hope you have enjoyed my layouts and I shall be back next month with another project.
