Hi there, it’s Caroline here again. I have three more layouts for you today, using the Oh Happy Day Collection by Simple Stories.
Absolutely Loving The Pink Hair
For my first layout, my photo dictated a lot of my initial design choices. I really wanted to highlight the pink in the photo. Therefore I started by stencilling an ombre pink triangle pattern onto the white cardstock background. I chose to use Picked Raspberry and Seedless Preserves Distress Oxides to do this.
Next, I added more pink by cutting a strip of the B side of the No Probllama Paper, which I placed vertically on the page. I then layered this with pieces of the B sides of the Well Said and Love Much Papers and the Wild & Free Paper. Also I used scraps of each of these papers to create an embellishment cluster in the top left corner of the page.
I added a final pop of pink by matting the photo onto one of the 3×4” cards from the 3×4” Elements Paper to give it a pink border. Placing it in the bottom right corner of the page along side another of the 3×4” cards. To make my title stand out from the background I added it to a piece of vellum. Meaning that the background was still visible underneath, but muted.
I used elements from the 12×12” Combo Stickers, Bits & Pieces Die Cuts and 4×6” Stickers Set for my embellishments. Making sure each cluster had a wood veneer heart, a white Elles Studio perspex star, a woodgrain sticker and a black piece. Having one of each of these things in each cluster, ties the embellishments together.
I finished the layout by adding my journaling to the white space above the title.
My second layout today was inspired by one of Julie’s layouts and her discussion about black cardstock on the Facebook group. I thought this would be the perfect collection to try a black background as the Oh Happy Day papers are so bright.
I picked four 3×4 photos which I matted onto white first to make them stand out. Then again onto black to mirror the background, just leaving a very narrow border. I cut a strip of the B side of the Love Much Paper, to provide a base for my photos. Layering it with the Wild & Free paper and the B sides of the No Probllama and the Oh Hello Papers.
I added some simple embellishment to two areas of the page. Choosing to place them on the diagonal line, at the top left and bottom right to draw the eye across the page and the photos.
I die-cut some white circles for the base of my embellishments. Edging them with Picked Raspberry and Peacock Feathers Distress Oxides. I used the same inks to colour some wood veneer stars. Finishing the clusters with a wood veneer flower, a sticker from the 12×12” Combo Stickers and a stamped phrase.
I finished the page off by adding my title with some Thickers and tile letters stickers under the photos. Along with my typed journaling strips.
I love the way this layout turned out and will definitely use a black background again in the future.
A Bank Holiday Walk in the Woods
My final layout is a standard sized traveler’s notebook spread. This time the page started with the B side of the 4×6” Elements Paper. I loved the rainbow stripe and wanted to use it, so I chose photos from a bright sunny day to complement the paper. Layering it with the B sides of the 2×2” Elements Paper and the It’s Coffee O’Clock Paper.
I chose two 3×4” photos for this layout, which meant I had to place them across the join in the page. Because of this I made sure to place them so that the cut would be through the background of the photo.
I used the lovely floral stickers as the main embellishments, as they reminded me of being outside. Layering them with some banners cut from papers from the collection and some word stickers.
I once again finished the page by adding my title using Thickers and tile stickers, along with my journaling.
I have loved working with this brilliantly bright and fun collection from Simple Stories. If you are also loving the collection, you can find the Oh Happy Day range here.
Thank you for joining me again today. I hope you have enjoyed seeing my layouts and I will be back again next month. See you then.
