Oh Happy Day – Simple Stories
Hi there Magpies, it’s Caroline here. Today I am sharing three layouts using the Oh Happy Day collection from Simple Stories.
I have been a fan of Simple Stories for many years now and always look forward to seeing their new collections. Oh Happy Day has lots of bright bold colours, including one of my favourite combinations of pink, turquoise and yellow. I always find their collections very versatile and find that it is easy to use leftover pieces of older collections together with their new ones.
Hey There
I decided to keep my first layout this week quite simple. Choosing two 3×4” photos. Matting them onto white card, so that they would stand out against the bold papers.
I positioned the main focus of my layout towards the bottom left corner of the page. Just adding a small cluster to the top right to create a diagonal line across the page.
I cut pieces of the A and B sides of the Love Much Paper and the B side of the 3×4” Elements Paper, to layer underneath my photos. Choosing to use a scrap of the Love Much Paper as the base of the cluster in the top corner. I finished it off with a couple of banners cut from some scraps and a saying from the 2×2” Elements Paper.
For my title I used some words from the Bits and Pieces Die Cuts pack. Along with a phrase sticker from the 4×6” Stickers Set. I added another area of embellishment just to the left of my photo. Repeating the banners from the top of the page and layering them with a tab sticker from the 12×12” Combo Stickers. I finished the page by adding a heart die cut to each of the embellishment clusters and some letter stickers to include my pets names and the date.
Follow Your Heart, Do What You Love
My second layout was inspired by the ‘Follow your heart’ 3×4” card cut from the 3×4” Element Paper, which I decided to use as part of my title. I picked my photo based on the card and matted them together, so that I was working with one piece, approximately 6×4”.
I tend to stick to white backgrounds usually. However, I felt the B side of the Stay Sharp Paper would work perfectly with my photo. I selected the B sides of the It’s Coffee O’Clock Paper and the Oh Hello Paper to layer under my photo. With the yellow piece, creating a grounding, so that it didn’t look like the photo was floating. Below this I added the gorgeous, black, spotted scalloped border sticker from the Combo Sticker sheet.
I typed my journaling onto a piece of white paper. Layering it with a couple of scraps, towards the bottom right of my layout. Then I finished off my title with some white Thickers, placed below the photo.
Next I turned to my embellishments, choosing three areas to place them. I placed them both to the left and right of the photo and at the bottom of the journaling. I used the gorgeous flower die cuts and stickers to build up each cluster. Finishing them with a colourful word sticker.
I finished off the page, by adding the die cut phrase and heart sticker, just above the journaling.
What you looking At?
My final layout this week is a standard size traveler’s notebook spread, using a 3×4” photo.
I decided to place my photo on the right, looking off the page, as they are looking away from the camera. I matted it first onto white card and then onto one of the 3×4” from the Elements Paper.
Next, I decided on the patterns I wanted to use. Choosing to use the Love Much Paper, the Wild & Free Paper and the B side of the Well Said Paper. I also used a section of the branding strip from the Stay Sharp Paper, which provided the grounding for my title, which I added using some white Thickers.
I placed my embellishment on three sides of the photo. Selecting a turquoise element, an orange circle and a black heart from the stickers and die cuts. The orange circles are actually some of the fruit die cuts and stickers. However, I just tucked the leaves underneath the papers so they just looked like normal circles.
I finished the page by adding my journaling strips above the title and three heart die cuts to the white space in the top left corner.
Thank you for joining me today, I hope you have enjoyed seeing what I have created with the beautiful, bright Oh Happy Day collection from Simple Stories. Which you can find here.
I will be back later in the month, so until then Happy Scrapping!
