'On Trend' therapy

Sometimes when I’m crafting I use my ‘me’ time as a means of therapy – a time when I can simply drift off into my own little world and shut out the everyday shenanigans! This month I needed more ‘me’ time than usual and the new ‘On Trend 2’ from My Minds Eye was just the remedy…
With time being of the essence and me being a first class student of paper shuffling, I decided that the best course of much needed crafting therapy was to reach for my silhouette, use a couple of cut files and back each cut section with decorative papers. The ‘On Trend’ 6 x 6″ paper pad is perfect for this, especially as each paper is not only double sided but some pages feature a gold foil too!
My first layout this month is ‘Happy’

After cutting a fairly intricate heart, I started randomly backing each cut section with a selection of the decorative 6 x 6″ papers. After a while I decided that I wasn’t being quite as random as I’d hoped with the papers, but simply went with the flow! After all what good is therapy if it involves stress?

After backing each cut section I deduced to add a machine stitched line.
‘Top tip’ – having learnt the hard way, if you do indeed decide to stitch around each backed section, I’d suggest you stitch it before applying to your layout LOL!

Even after a year since they first made their appearance, I cannot get enough flamingos!

The super cute rub-ons and stickers in the ‘On Trend 2’ collection are a perfect mix of randomness – just up my street…
‘& Sunshine’ is my second layout this month – I love the selfie my youngest step-daughter had taken on holiday a couple of years ago – a teenager with real attitude pose! And although very soft focus, I really liked the graininess of the image.

The flair buttons and decorative brads are so sweet, and they work so well with the quirky chipboard shapes including the ‘oh so not’ prickly cactus – ha ha!

Whilst I have mentioned a ‘top tip’ earlier, stitching around these ampersands had to be done directly onto the layout and OMG was it hard – notice the rather wobbly stitching?

‘Happy Days’ is a rather mushy layout based on a photo taken on our amazing trip to Thailand last October. One island we visited had plants that they were training to follow the contour of heart shapes, so being a scrapbooker he had to oblige in a joint selfie!
beautiful happy days
As this was the first layout that I created this month, I had yet to learn my earlier top tip – never attempt to machine stitch an intricate sewing line on a layout, simply stitch onto the cut file!

How cute are the facing flamingos on this flair button?

So whilst Spring is just round the corner, like me you might still be fighting the Winter blues? If so why not indulge in need of some much needed scrapbooking therapy? I always find shopping does the trick!
