Paperless LOs with Field Notes!

Hey Magpies, I picked the wonderful new collection from Vicki Boutin, Field Notes to work with this time and I LOVED it! I did my first couple of layouts and didn’t even need to cut into the papers, so I decided to go with paperless layouts this month and I will cut into the papers for November and see what I can do with them. It’s not that I didn’t like the papers in Field Notes at all, there are some absolutely fabulous papers that I can’t wait to use, but these layouts just came together so easily without me even needing papers, so I decided to make it a feature!
I am a big fan of embellishments, I think I usually buy more embellishments than I do paper from a collection. I adored the last Vicki Boutin collection and the die-cuts were some of my most favourite ever. I was very late to that party and almost missed the bus completely but I did manage to find and stock up on it! So when I saw there was a new collection, I jumped straight on it this time! I found that the two different packs of die-cuts were so usable, they’re fabulous! I think I will use every single piece from these packs, even if I end up not using them for ‘exactly’ what they’re meant to be used for. They’re so lush, I can’t recommend them enough. There’s the Icons Die-Cut Ephemera and the Journalling Die-Cut Ephemera, you’ll want both of them, trust me!
As I am writing this post I notice that a few bits are out of stock in the shop but they will be re-stocked soon so please sign up for an email alert and you will get an email as soon as they come back into the store. It’s worth the wait!
My first LO was this one and wow, it came together so quickly! I was sitting at my desk going through the Ephemera packs and laying them out to have a good look. I ended up just whacking some on a piece of white cardstock and all of a sudden, I had a LO done! It’s that easy to use the Ephemera packs! I used a couple of the Icons and a couple of the Journalling bits and laid my photo on top. My title is from the awesome Black Puffy Phrase Thickers pack which I was so excited about, I accidentally purchased 3 packs! I didn’t mean to but I am glad I have them, they’re very cool and super usable. I also used one of the Chipboard Phrase Thickers which are also awesome, very usable and definitely not all ‘best day ever’ the sayings are normal and easy to pop on a page. I used a couple of the Puffy Stickers and then got out my Nuvo Drops to do a multicoloured border inside my doodled one. Super simple and so easy to throw together.

Next up I did exactly the same thing, just bunged a whole lot of the Ephemera behind my photo and I was done! I did a border along the bottom of the page with some of the Washi Tape. I have had this photo on my desk since last month, I put one of the Maggie Holmes, Willow Lane Pom Pom Frames on it and then it never worked on any LO I tried it on. But it worked this time! I did exactly what I did with the last LO, just layered up the Ephemera from both packs until I was happy. A couple of the Puffy Stickers and s smattering of Nuvo Drops and I was finished. So fast and easy and look at those lush colours!

On the Watercolour Sticker Book there is this super awesome acetate overlay on top of the stickers to show you that you can use your watercolour paints on them. I love the overlay so much, I used it! So I bunged it on my page and held it down with some old photo turns. There is a funny story about this LO and why there’s Washi Tape borders top and bottom, I kept thinking it wasn’t balanced so I was slicing a bit from the top and adding it to the bottom and then it looked wrong so I’d take some from the bottom and put it on the top. Well, I did it so much the joins were totally obvious and I had to get creative with the washi tape to cover them!

Now I know there’s a lot of mixed media in the Vicki Boutin collections but I have never managed to get my hands on any of it! I decided to try a bit of a mixed media background using what I had in my stash to kind of channel the Vicki Boutin style – or what I think the style is anyway! So I used some mists and splodged them on my cardstock with some acetate from one of the Ephemera packs! I tried not to go too over the top. Then I used the Ink Spill Stencil Set to add some glitter embossing paste over the top. I have a close up so you can hopefully see that….

Did you see that awesome turquoise heart? It’s one of the clear Watercolour Stickers, man they work well! It looks like I’ve painted it on there myself but I don’t have those kind of skills! I used some of the Ephemera, the Puffy Phrase Thickers for my title, some of the Puffy Stickers and then a couple of the Chipboard Phrase Thickers. Then I doodled my own scalloped border with a black pen and used a few of the Pearl coloured Nuvo Crystal Drops to finish this LO off.

I really wanted to do this last LO just to use some of the fantastic washi tapes. I have the Field Notes Washi Tapes and also the washi tape set from the last Vicki Boutin collection and another set from jane Davenport which I also bought in the shop but both of those are sold out now and gone sorry. So I can’t link them but you may have been lucky to pick one or both of those sets up previously. I must say, I never used to buy any washi tape sets cause I always thought I didn’t like them all and I wouldn’t use them but honestly, once I started buying them I realised they are awesome and now if I’m buying a collection and there’s a washi tape set, I am all over that! They are worth the money and definitely take some tape and put it on some scrap cardstock to see what it’s like, what they look like on the roll is sometimes totally different when you stick them down.
So all I did for this LO was start with one piece of washi at the bottom and then add more strips up the page. They were so nice I didn’t even want to put a photo over them lol! The tag I used is also from an older Vicki Boutin collection and I must work out when this photo was taken and mark the actual date on it! I’ve used a couple of bits of the Ephemera on some foam pads for dimension and the awesome title from the Puffy Phrase Thickers. I loved the smile in the Thickers so much, I made a feature of it and popped it on a circle covered in washi tape and put it on foam pads too. Then I doodled a border and did my signature Nuvo Crystal Drops to finish off.

So that was 5 LOs I created pretty easily and simply using the embellishments from the Vicki Boutin Field Notes collection. I love this collection, it’s so easy to use, lush colours and great embellishments. I am going to continue working with it for next month and break into my papers next time. I know when I looked through the papers there were some that were so pretty I was gasping in delight! So I can’t wait to start using some of those. I’ll see you next month Magpies, have a great October!
