Hey Little Magpie Blog

Playing with mixed media and Heidi Swapp

4

Hey my Magpie friends,

How are you all? I have missed you as I was away last month and somehow we have got to the 10th November! How did that happen? I have been itching to play with the new Heidi Swapp mixed media goodies and this month I have had a chance and they are just as lovely as I expected them to be. So lets get started…
For my first layout I used some of the gorgeous “Wonder”collection by Crate Paper. The first of the mixed media products I used was the “Heidi Swapp Gold Texture Paste” and this stuff is gorgeous! It so very golden and sparkly and the thickness of the paste is really useable too.

I started the page by stamping the white cardstock with a black grill stamp to add a bit of interest and then ran the texture paste through another stencil to create some depth. You can leave the paste to air dry but I like to use a heat gun because this makes the paste pop and that adds more texture to the layout. I also splashed some “Heidi Swapp Gold Colour Shine” on the layout around the texture paste.  I then used papers from the “Wonder” collection behind the photo to create small layers and built up the rest of the layers using the ephemera from the “Wonder” collection. In the ephemera pack there are also some felt hearts which work beautifully to create another layer to the cluster. I also added some puffy stickers in the shape of a stars. Heidi Swapp also has some doilies in her mixed media release and I added one of those behind the picture.  The flowers are from my stash.  I then creates another cluster in the bottom right hand corner using more of the ephemera and added another puffy sticker to that to finish it off.  The last items that I added were some of the “Wonder” enamel dots and sequins that are self adhesive which makes it very easy to add them to your layouts.

My second layout uses some of the paper from the beautiful My Minds Eye “My Story” collection. I used the speciality gold foil paper that had lots of butterflies on it, which is currently out of stock.  I fussy cut all the butterflies from this paper to start my layout. I love fussy cutting, its a very relaxing thing to do and if you are trying to scrap on a budget then its a really cost effective way of making your own embellishments too.

After fussy cutting all the butterflies I took one of the Heidi Swapp mixed media stencils (Flower Stencil) and used the wide stripe one to stamp some bright pink lines on a piece of white cardstock. Once I had done this I took another stencil (Dot Stencil) and ran some black texture paste through this to create my own backing paper for the picture. Again I used a heat tool to dry the texture paste to create more dimension. I also used some of the gold triangle vellum from the “Wonder” collection and some back cardstock to make the matt behind the picture. I finished this off with another one of the Heidi Swapp doilies and a wood veneer from Pink Fresh Studio. Lastly I added a pink flower from my stash and a wooden HS word that I sprayed with black colour shine and called this cluster done.
Next I used gold, pink and black Heidi Swapp colour shine to create splatters on my white cardstock. When doing this make sure that each colour is dry before adding the next or you will end up with a big mess. Once the background is all dry I attached the picture to the bottom left hand corner and arranged all the butterflies on the layout, popping up some of the wings to add more depth to the layout.  I finished off with some of the My Minds Eye enamel shapes, some more of the Pink Fresh wood veneer and some sequins from my stash.

Layout number three is made using some of the papers from the Jillibean Soup “Sew Sweet Sunshine Soup” collection.

Again I fussy cut the hearts from the “Sew Original” paper and once I had cut them out I used black ink to highlight the edges. Once I had done this I then used one of the flower pieces of Heidi Swapp mixed media lace paper and sprayed this with black colour shine and left it to dry. I also splattered lots of different colours of mist all over my white cardstock to create a backdrop for the layout. Once everything was dry I arranged the hearts into a column on the left hand of the picture that was backed in striped paper. I then cut the flowers from the lace paper and arranged them around the picture. I finished the layout off with puffy stickers and wooden embellishments from my stash and an Amy Tan paperclip and enamel dots which are currently out of stock

My forth and final layout I used more of the yummy Amy Tan “Finders Keepers” collection

I fussy cut all the flowers from the “Expedition” paper and placed them to one side. Then I sprayed another of the Heidi Swapp lace papers with black colour shine and set that to dry and added spray splatters to my paper that matched the colours of the flowers on the paper. I also added some of the gold texture paste using one of the Heidi Swapp stencils. Once this was all dry I backed my picture with one of the silver “Hello Beautiful” frames which are now out of stock and also added one of the silver charms to the front of the picture. I attached the picture to the layout and built the flowers around it popping some up with foam tape. I finished the layout off with sequins from my stash, some silver letters from Shimelles “True Stories” collection and some Heidi Swapp puffy stickers.
