Portraits in black and white…

So Summer has long gone and it seems like a decade ago that we were last on holiday having formal portraits taken! Although taken in colour, there is something so classy about portraits in black and white…

After seeing the simply stunning DIY Home collection by Jen Hadfield, I just knew it would be the perfect range to use to scrap all those portrait images, be they of weddings, graduations, formal nights or family gatherings.

With a predominant colour combination of coral, peach and chocolate black, and with a medley of colours in each of my portrait photos, the answer seemed simple to me – simply print them in black and white!

Wherever you go, go with all your heart and love…

This layout uses a selection of the die-cut ephemera, along with a journalling card from the Happy Day cut-outs paper.

The base of the layout uses the polka dot reverse of the Blossoms paper along with a paper from the Maggie Holmes Shine collection.

Stitched lines and the subtle gold accent details add to the overall opulence of this collection.

Hello best friends…

frames

Using another Maggie Holmes Shine paper, I cut out the inner frame of each and then backed a selection of them with either a portrait photo or a journalling card.

Fussy cut blooms, from the pretty Blossoms paper add both detail and interest to break up the angular lines of each frame.

Life is beautiful…

6 x 6″ pads were made for this kind of layout! Apart from using a section of script from the Studio Calico Sweet Dreams / Twinkle Little Star paper, all other papers are from the DIY Home 6 x 6″ paper pad.

Each layout has an obligatory splatter of peach, be it with gelatos, watercolour or mists!

It is a truly beautiful range, but I personally think that the range name of DIY Home does not conjure up the idea of these stunning colours and so sadly it may have been overlooked by many of you.
