Scrapbooking and typography love…

How time flies… Not only have you heard from most of my fellow Magpies, but four months today it’s Christmas Day!
And even though there are some stunning Christmas themed collections appearing in the shop, I thought it was a little too early to be getting into the festive cheer and decided to play with some of the totally gorgeous and vibrant summery collections whilst we still have the corresponding weather! To say it was hard to pick from all the wonderful collections available is an understatement but after much deliberation I chose a selection from ‘The Story of Us‘ and ‘Good Day Sunshine‘ by Simple Stories and ‘Me-ology’ from Fancy Pants.
I love using interesting typography on my scrapbooking layouts, either by using a stylish alpha or incorporating text heavy papers and was completely besotted with the Studio Calico white script acetate that formed the basis for my first layout. Set onto the gorgeous Maggie Holmes clouds paper, I set about creating a fun and colourful layout using the ‘Good Day Sunshine‘ collection to complement a holiday snap of my middle step-daughter messing around in her sunglasses. Using the paint strip cut from the 12 x 2″ elements paper, I reached for my gelatos and created ‘clouds’ of colours similar to the paint chips. And whats a layout without a few splatters of mist! Again I’m a bit addicted to the Heidi Swapp mists from the shop and found Blush, Cherry, Mustard and Chartreuse to be a perfect match.

The embellishments came in the form of cut elements from the 3 x 4″ journalling elements paper, along with some flair badges, chipboard  and gems from Maggie Holmes, not forgetting the American Crafts Dear Lizzy peg. The tiles was cut on my silhouette, but I couldn’t resist adding a second “mini” one using one of the cutest phrases that I’ve heard in a long time ‘life is better in flip flops‘. And I’m hoping it is just that, as I’m actually in Istanbul today, seeing this amazing place for the very first time!

Keeping with the very bright theme, layout number two used items and papers from the Me-ology collection. The ephemera and buttons pack along with the Blossomed and Blush papers were pretty much all that got used on this layout, apart from a couple of flair badges from the Styleboard collection by Maggie Holmes and some book print paper, which was used to back mount a silhouette cut title.
Who can resist fussy cutting? Certainly not me and the Blossomed paper was too tempting not to reach for my fussy cutting scissors!  I simply cut a selection of floral elements and ornate leaves to cluster around the layout…

But what’s better is when it’s already done for you and that’s just what you’ll find with the ephemera pack – the birdie in his beret, the birdhouse and decorative camera are way too cute and the stylised frame is so versatile!

Predominantly aimed to be a wedding themed collection, ‘The Story of Us‘ with its classic colours of blacks, grey and golds needn’t be solely kept for photos taken on a wedding day! This colour scheme is perfect for portrait imagery, graduation photos and even photos depicting the love between two people.

serious

I used a photo which is rather special to me – I am a keen royalist and organised a party in our local pub the day Kate and William tied the knot! We all got dressed up – the men were in black tie and watched the ceremony, singing along to the hymns and ‘being a part of the service’ even though we were in Shropshire and they were in London! We enjoyed a lovely meal afterwards and raised some money for charity along the way! My husband Harvey is a photographer and he organised a background for us to have our portraits taken in front of – all in all a great day! I was going to use one of the series where we were both being sensible, then an idea sprung to mind that if I used the ever so delicious Amy Tan Plus One foam phrases, I could  cut away the “ly” to leave the word “serious” and so I had my title – be serious!

The ‘bits and pieces’ pack along with gold bokeh / chevron paper from the same collection and the Attitude script paper from the Me-ology range were the key items used in the layout, used to back the base cut frames, along with a light spritz of the delicious and ever so addictive Heidi Swapp gold mist! Then a bit more bling was added  with some of the Maggie Holmes gold typewriter font phrases…

I do sometimes wonder what I did before we had mists!
If not before, I’ll be back next month with more layouts to whet your appetite…
