Simple Vintage Christmas Cards

Hello, it’s Jo here with my November design team projects. This month I’ve been busy making Christmas cards with the Simple Stories ‘Simple Vintage Christmas’ collection. I’ve had to make myself stop and get this blog post written, but seriously I could keep going as there’s so much loveliness in this collection. I will continue to make more cards and I will be using these to send to friends and family this year. I have been making my Christmas cards for years and years now, and this years are really lovely, even if I do say so myself!

I chose the four cut apart papers as my starting point, 4 x 6 Horizontal Elements, 4 x 6 Vertical Elements, 4 x 4 Elements and 3 x 4 Elements. For the embellishment side of things I ordered the Cardstock Die-cut Ephemera Bits & Pieces and the Chipboard Stickers, plus the 12 x 12″ sticker sheets; Combo Cardstock Stickers and Borders Cardstock Stickers. For extra background papers I ordered the following 12 x 12″ papers ‘Jolly’, ‘Dear Santa‘, ‘Be Merry‘ and ‘Ho Ho Ho‘, plus ‘Merry Snowflakes‘ from Carta Bella.

I ordered lots of the collection, but didn’t use all of it making the cards, the rest I’m saving for Christmas layouts and my December Daily. However, you can find the 4 x 6 Sticker set here, the 12 x 12 Banner Stickers here and the Chipboard Frames here.
Let’s start with the cards made using the 4 x 6 Horizontal Elements paper…

I used a variety of cardstock stickers, die-cuts and chipboard stickers to add extra embellishments and dimension to the cards. Several of the stickers and die-cut elements were popped up on foam pads to get the dimension I was after.

The ‘Good Cheer’ is made using a rotated card from that paper. I simply covered over the words Hello December with a Santa sticker which I popped up on foam pads.

Some of the 4 x 6 pieces from the paper I wasn’t so keen on, so I flipped the paper and used the b-side as my background, as you can see in the bottom right card. I added a doily from my stash and mounted a trimmed border sticker on foam pads on the of it.
Here’s the cards I’ve made using the 3 x 4 Elements paper…

I kept them fairly simple as they are only small. For the card below, I trimmed around the 3 x 4 piece and matted on a piece of the Carta Bella paper making it into a 4 x 4″ card.

Some I kept as 4 x 4″, one I trimmed down to fit a 3.5 x 3.5″ card blank I had and others I matted with other papers to make A6 cards.
This one is one of my absolute favourites. I love the warmth of the red and the music sheet behind.

This one features part of a doily which I trimmed from another 4 x 6″ cut apart piece to add an extra layered detail to this card.
Here are some others made with bits and pieces from the collection. I have so much left that I’ll continue to make more cards like this.

There’s lots of these vintage Santa’s in the collection, so lovely!

I hope I’ve inspired you to make some cards to send this Christmas, even if it’s just a few to those special people in your life.
Thanks for stopping by, see you next month!
