Sparkle City by Shimelle

Hello Magpies, Caroline back with you today. This month I have been working with Shimelle’s Sparkle City collection. I am a big fan of Shimelle’s style of scrapbooking. I remember years ago always loving her layouts in the scrapbooking magazines. However, this is the first of her collections that I have worked with and I have been loving using it. The collection includes some fab colours. I’m always a big fan of the pinks, turquoises and yellows, but it’s nice to see purple appearing in more collections now.

Birthday Celebrations

My first layout features two 3×4” photos which I matted onto white card to give them a thin border. For this layout I knew that I wanted to place my photos roughly in the middle of the page, so started by picking my papers to go underneath. I chose the It’s Wonderful paper as the main paper that would be visible. Cutting it to about 3” high and leaving it the full 12” width to place at the top of my page. I wanted to layer a couple of different paper designs underneath it, using one of the paper branding strips for the turquoise strip. Then i used a scallop border punch with the b side of the  Grab and Go paper to punch out the yellow strip.

Next I added my photos on top, roughly central. Then used the Thickers from Amy Tangerine’s Stay Sweet collection to add the title underneath. Adding my printed journaling strips underneath the title.

As my layout is about a birthday I wanted my embellishment to look like confetti falling from the photos onto the page. To achieve this I punched out lots of circles, using a normal hole punch. I used the branding strips for this so the colours would match perfectly. Next I randomly arranged the circles on the page. I then interspersed a few wood veneer stars and some of the holographic circles from the Phrase and Icon Thicker set, to add a bit of sparkle. It took a while to go round and glue down each paper circle with a glue pen, however I’m really pleased with the finished page.

See The World, Enjoy The Adventure

For my second layout, I decided to have a go at making my own layered embellishments, using dies, wood veneers, wood stickers and enamel dots.

I started my page by choosing a 6×4” photo and matting it onto black card. Layering up pieces of the b sides of the Fairy Lights, Traffic Jam and Painted Ladies papers. I placed my photo over the intersection of the papers and chose to use one of the 3×4” cards from the Dream Big paper as part of my title. Finishing it off with the small tile letter stickers from the Sticker & Washi Book Folder.

To make my layered embellishments, I started by cutting a number of scalloped circles out of black card and then layering on top some slightly smaller circles, cut from white card. Next I chose a few basic shape dies, cutting arrows, banners and asterisks from the same three papers. Adding a different combination of shapes and colours to each circle. I added a word sticker to each embellishment and then finished them off with wood veneer hearts and enamel dots. Once finished I placed my layered embellishments around the layout. Positioning each one over an edge or overlap in the papers.

I finished off the page by adding my printed journaling strips to the top right hand corner of the page. Then added two rows of die cut black chevrons. I wanted to use chevrons and arrows in the embellishments to replicate the arrows in the patterned paper.
