Stash Busting with Specialty Papers

Hi All, I hope you are recovering from the chocolate high from Easter and are enjoying the lighter days, and even the odd bits of sunshine we have been having.
This month I am on a mission to use up my stash, especially my growing love of 6×6 paper pads which has got a little bit crazy of late.  However much I love the papers sometime its hard to work with the smaller scale papers if you don’t have something to match them to use as a background paper.  It was whilst looking through the shop that I came across the idea of refreshing my stash with some of the beautiful specialty papers and  I will be using this as a kick start to some new pages.  I also decided that I needed to embrace all things gold.
The papers I picked was the following:

I also picked a couple of the new Pebbles collection pieces as they were very gold, and I could not resist.

I have filmed a short video of these papers so you can see how beautiful they are, as the pictures do not always do them justice,  This video and others for all these pages will be on my YouTube channel over the next week.
For my first page I used the MME arrow paper, I knew from this paper I wanted to have all the arrows pointing to the main images and title, so I wanted to keep my clustering pretty tight to the photo.

The Pebbles Spring Fling die cuts had the beautiful images of the cakes, so they were prefect to tell the story of this photo.  I used a lot of the pieces form this pack, but teamed it with the papers from the Crate Paper Wonder collection.

Using the specialty paper in this way works great with a single photo and could be used with much simpler layering.  Also the gold foiling on this paper is not too brassy or bold so it works with the muted tones of this collection.

The next paper is from Amy Tangerine and the foiling details on this background adds great interest without it being over powering, and it more neutral than some of the others.

For this page I used the Basic Grey B-Side papers, the bright colours really pop with the kraft background.  I also used some of the amazing Jen Hadfield Foiled Embossed paper, it is so shiny and bright, that it is overpowering.  I have used it as an accent to this and a couple of my other pages too.

I used another of the Amy Tangerine specialty papers for this background, again the foiling paired with the kraft makes such a beautiful combination.  I used my Becky Higgins Inspire Edition Paper Pad to make this page, they now have this collection in the Instax collection and they make such great title pieces for pages.

I teamed some of the Crate Paper Craft Market die cuts that have been sat in my stash for far too long, these also featured gold foiling and glittering which tied in well.

The gold glitter paper from the Wonder collection was great to layer on top of, the glitter did not shed and the cream stripes made it easier to attached the layers.  I will say often the specialty papers due to the treatment of the foiling or glittering can make them difficult to adhere things too.  I used my normal ATG adhesive when sticking this layers down, but when I was happy with it I went back with my wet glue to ensure everything was stuck down fast.

This page was one where I had a whole heap of neglected die cuts which I loved but were maybe a bit out of my normal style.  I love just chucking these all in to clusters and layers, this was you see them has a whole embellishment cluster initially then you see the detail.  Also after this page was complete and I was working on another I came across the squirrel die cut, which needed to be included, so it got added to the bottom.

I also like the play between the different textures of gold on this page.  I had the muted gold glitter on the background, the amazing embossed gold foil and then the two different gold alphas.  i really recommend playing with different textures of the same colours.

This finial page I am sharing is one of the favourites I made from this set of papers.  I am a huge fan of skulls and I always buy way too much Halloween paper, on this page I used the Crate Paper and MME collections from 2015.

I included lots of textures on this page with the twine and the resin frame and again that amazing Jen Hadfield embossed paper.
Now I know that gold is not for everyone, but through completing these pages I hope you can see how it will work with lots of different collections and colours.  These specialty papers really helped me to look as some of my stash in a new light and although yes they are a bit more expensive they work great for being a real feature of a page.  Now I still have lots of 6×6 paper pads in my stash, but it has defiantly made me more likely to get them out and play with them, and i hope I have inspired you too.
I will be back next month with another set of mixed pages for you all, so have a great time creating memories till I speak to you then.
