Hi there, it’s Rachel here with my first ever blog post for Hey Little Magpie! I’m so excited to be on the team as I absolutely adore the store and Sarah & Lianne stock all the manufacturers I love!
I’ll tell you all a little bit about me to introduce myself. I am Rachel Millington and I’m 41 years old. I live in the Cotswolds with my partner and cat but I’m originally from New Zealand. I have been living in England for over 15 years now. I used to work as a freelance graphic designer and artworker but I haven’t worked since the recession hit in 2008. But that’s ok, it gives me more time for other things!
I chose to use the Basic Grey Highline range for my first creative team assignment as this has been one of my favourite releases in the past few years. I just love the bright colours of this collection, it’s so cheerful and there’s some lush embellishments to go with the range. You can check out the range in the shop here.
This was the first LO I made with this collection. You may have seen this one before as I did share in on the Hey Little Magpie Facebook page. I was so chuffed with how easy it was to throw a LO together with this range, I ended up going back for a second order of papers and embellishments because I realised how useable it was and I knew I would be making many more LO’s with it!
All I did with this LO was layer up the papers from the range and on some of them, I added a black cardstock mat because it really helped the colours to pop. I used bits and bobs from the diecuts pack and the title I popped on a frame from the frames and acetate tags and I used Amy Tangerine Plus One foam Thickers and Phrase Thickers for my title. Those Thickers have got to be one of my favourite products in the last few years, they’re so awesome!
My next LO I used a black background to really make the colours pop. I am pretty much a black or white background kind of girl, you don’t often see me using anything else. This LO is pretty simple, it’s just layers of different patterned papers from the range. I then used a white pen to draw a border of dots around all the papers once I’d stuck them down. Embellishments are just various bits from the different die cut packs in the range and I’ve used foam pads to add a bit of height to some of them. My journalling is written using one of my favourite pens, the American Crafts Slick Writer in black and I also added some of the fantastic puffy arrow stickers from MAMBI. They’re fab embellishments and are a great price for the pack too, definitely worth stocking up on.
My next LO, I tried to mix it up a little more and use some of the different colours of papers, so that my LO’s weren’t too pink! So I used the lush yellow paper with the dark orange and other papers from the 6×6 paper pad. I layered them up and used more die cuts to embellish along with some of the vellum tape stickers. Again, the puffy arrow stickers are on this one, they’re a very useable embellishment!
For this LO I used one of the fabulous placemats from Jillibeans Soup, these things are great! I got the Smile Pack and used one of them as my title. I didn’t want to use too much else on this LO because I loved the way the mini placemat looked on the black background and I wanted to keep the focus on that. So I just used a leftover piece of paper from the Highline 6×6 pad cause it kind of reminded me of sunset and the beach and a strip of one of my favourite papers ever, the Boutique Stripe from Simple Stories DIY Boutique. I embellished with various items from the die cuts pack and the chipboard stickers.
My last LO is again, just layers of the Highline papers and I pretty much used offcuts I had left and just threw them together for the base of the LO. I have used quite a few different embellishments on this one, lots from the Amy Tangerine Plus One range.
So I hope you like these LO’s I’ve shared. I just wanted to show you what a versatile range the Highline collection is and I think it’s definitely worth buying a lot of the embellishments that come in a range, especially the die cut packs because they last such a long time and work out great value for money.
