Teal, Turquoise & Tags – Making Embellishments

Hi all and wow its July!  I know I say it every month but this year is just flying and makes me so grateful that I am documenting all these memories that are just flying by.  This month I am revisiting a technique that I often use when I am in the mood to be creative, but don’t have photos or the space to do a scrapbooking page.  I like to make embellishments that I can use on pages at a later date.  I did a similar project on the blog in September 2014, you can see it HERE.
I had got some of the pieces from the new True Stories Shimelle collection, I really loved the teal and yellows in this collection with the pops of the red. I also used some papers from her first collection, especially the 6×6 paper pad.  I decided to also pull some glitter paper from my stash to really embrace the silver that is in the Shimelle collection.  You can find a glitter cardstock from Heidi Swapp in the store.
Similar to my post last month when I make my own embellishments I looked for papers that would work well cut-apart and as single elements on the page.  The paper and paper from True Stories are great for this.  I like to have something to base my clusters on and decided to use my tag die to cut out a few as bases.
Here are the tags that I created from this collection. I have a process video sharing me making these tags.  It can be seen HERE.

I used both large and small tags to build my clusters on.  I would say that I use glue only on the middle of the elements so the edges are free.  This means I can tuck things under or over the photos and other elements on the page, I then can add more glue to these when they are on my page.

When it comes to putting pages together with these pre-made elements it make the process really quick and most of the pages I made came together in about 25 minutes.  I have videos for all of these pages which will be up on my channel over the next week.
I wanted to first to make a couple of 8.5 x 11 pages, as I am really loving this size at the moment, especially when scrapping a single photo/story.

These are going to be added in to my big USA 2012 album project and I love how with the pre-made embellishments I can quickly get the story down, which is the most important part of this big album.

This dark teal cardstock from my stash really works well with the Shimelle collection, and as these pages are going to be going back to back in my album I love how they coordinate.
I love the silver that was in the new Shimelle line, especially some of the specialty papers that are available, this paper is one of my favourites.  I had it in the pink and gold tones from her first collection and it makes a great background.

I added an additional cluster on this page using the really cute Polaroid frames from the collection, I love that I have these in a scaled down version in the 6×6 pad.  I think I would find it hard to use this type of paper as a background paper.

The yellow in this collection is great and coordinated well with the the teal tones.  I thought it worked well with the photos in this part of the album as well, not only the taxi but the fact I am wearing an attractive bright yellow rain poncho in these photos.  The umbrellas from the die cut pack work great for this page too.

For my finial page this month I decided to add some more red , to coordinate with the flowers I had added to some of the tags.  Their are lots of pops of red in the die cut pack to which meant I could take my pre-made tag and blended it in to the page.

I used some of the 6×6 cut apart sheets to further embellish the page.  Hats of to anyone who can read the title and not sing the Sir Mix-A-Lot song in your head!!

I hope you will try the idea of making embellishments without a page in mind, it is a great way to have a bit of creative fun.  I still have a couple of tags left which I will keep in my stash and pull out for future pages.  It is also a great thing to do with your scraps and to get the dies out of your stash and used up. Have a great July and I will see you all in August with another project.
