Using Old and New – Making a Kit

Hi everyone, hope you are all having a great year so far and are not fighting off to many bugs and colds, unlike me.  I spent the beginning of this year, looking at my stash and trying to get it in to some form of organisation, and realising I have far to much paper that I had not used.  I decided that I would make a kit up from my stash and to get some of the supplies I loved and needed out of my stash.

As you can see from the photo of the papers I picked, I decided to choose these via a colour pallet. It is great that American Crafts manufacture so many of our favourite paper designs that the colour patterns mix so well.  The papers in this kit range from 2012 to 2014, so it great to get them used up. I made 4 pages and two cards, their will be videos for all these and they can be found on my YouTube channel this week.  I also talk through my papers and embellishments I picked out for this kit HERE.  A list of the papers can be found below:

I decided as it was February that I would focus on photos of me and my boyfriend taken recently, and the theme of love of course.

For my first page I decided to use the beautiful heart paper from Shimelle as my background.  I created some simple layers with the papers form the kit, and go for a graphic black, white and red theme.  I made the large heart embellishment from one of the cut apart cards from Amy Tangerine, I kept the rest really simple as I had the older Plus One word Thickers that I wanted to use.  These are no longer in the shop but Amy Tangerine has these from her recent Stitched collection.

For the next page I picked the background first again, this is my normal process, and I choose the Elle’s Studio paper with a lovely hand drawn arrow design on.

I again used one of the Amy Tangerine cut apart cards, this time I decided to use it for my title.  I created some simple layers around the photos and also included some background stamping.  I used the new Dear Lizzy Roller Stamp for this.  I also included some more embellsihments from the Shimelle collection.  The Crate Paper Notes and Things embellishments also worked well with the tones on this page.  This page was finished off with the framing of the Open Book paper from Maggie Holmes, I guttered this paper to mount my photos on this also.

This next page, did see me reaching back in to my stash to pull the Dear Lizzy Serendipity 6×6 pad of paper to bring in some more triangle/chevron elements.

I picked up a couple of stencils from Crafters Workshop in the Sale and they worked perfectly with this page.  I also included further stamping using the roller stamps I selected.  I used a selection of older embellishments from my stash and also a pack of the Gossamer Blue die cuts that I forgot I owned.  I love the pastel colours mixed with the Amy Tangerine kraft cut apart, this is a combination I need to revisit.

The last page I created was using the piece of Shimelle specialty paper that I had been coveting, I wanted to make sure that my embellishments did not cover up the gold stripe detail.

This page saw me chuck a whole load of embellishments at the page, the main of them being various cut aparts from the papers that I picked.  I then picked the Gossamer Blue embellishment pack up and add these around the page, they pick up the gold tone of the background papers.  I also included one of the Dear Lizzy Serendipity bows on this page, and I love the texture this adds to the page.

I had a few bits of patterned paper left, so rather than leave this to hang around in my stash I decided to make a couple of cards.  I choose the Kraft card bases as I had loved how it mixed with the pastel colours.  The fab paper from Pebbles made great sentiments on the cards, this is a beautiful collection and worth a look if you are a Scrapbooker or a Cardmaker.

So I hope you have enjoyed seeing the outcome of my kit busting mission, I am really happy to get some of these beautiful papers in my albums rather than in my paper storage.  I hope I can encourage you to use some of your older papers in your stash and to get them packs of beloved embellishments out of your stash.
Have a wonderful February and I will see you next month.
