Welcome 2016 with Basic Grey Sunkissed & Typeset!

Welcome to 2016 Magpies! Let’s hope it’s a great year! I started the year using the new Basic Grey collections, Sunkissed and Typeset. These collections both led me to doing quite simple ad graphic LO’s. Sometimes I find a collection leads me to making pretty, layered LO’s but generally my style is graphic and simple. These collections seem to be more graphic to me, and I stuck to the grid style.
My first three LO’s are done using the Sunkissed collection. The first one I built around a sticker from the Sunkissed Title Stickers sheet, the ‘life is a grand adventure’ sticker. I cut my photo to the same size as the sticker. I needed a bit more height to my grid so I cut a bit of the Daybreak paper to the same width. Then I cut some grey paper to the same height as my grid and put it on the side. I popped one of the cork stickers from Sunkissed and then some of the little tiny word stickers from Maggie Holmes Confetti and Studio Calico. I drew a frame around my grid with a white pen and then I did manage to smudge it all over the place, whoops!

Next LO I built another grid, this time around the size of my photo. I used the Droplet paper, the awesome grey striped Mosiac papr which I loved and used a lot. And then I needed a little something extra so I cut some strips of the Secret Garden paper to go above & below. I embellished with some stickers from the Title Stickers, Hello Flair from HLM, Mambi Puffy Arrows and Chalk Sweet Memories Chipboard stickers. I used some older Thickers which I’ve been hoarding and some old Enamel Dots as they perfectly matched the coral colours in Sunkissed. I also used some of the £1 Range bling from HLM to add a bit of sparkle.

I totally love this old photo of the cat asleep on his back, showing his belly off. I remember this day, it was so hot, I don’t think he knew what to do with himself this day. There is a lot more belly there to be admired these days that’s for sure! I layered up a grid again, using a journalling card and some grey patterned paper as well as some more of the grey striped Mosiac paper. Then I dug in to the ephemera pack from Sunkissed and used some of the awesome bits from that pack. I had to use the fabulous word above the photo. I added in some stickers from the Sunkissed Title stickers, some Puffy Arrows from MAMBI and did my title with older Thickers which both came from Amy Tangerine I think. Then I used up some cat embellishments that I have had in a pot on my craft desk for ages. I don’t know where they came from but I decided it was time to use them on a LO!

I moved on to the Typeset collection next but I couldn’t help myself but use the Sunkissed Mosiac paper as well, I do like that grey stripe. On this LO I have again, based the grid around the size of my photo. I cut squares of the Crop Marks and Leading papers the same size as my photo. Then I made my grid using Mosiac and another couple of strips of the Leading, charcoal paper. Making a grid is such an easy way to make a LO very quickly. My title uses older Thickers, the aqua ones came from the Craft Market collection. This LO is about where my partner plays golf, Minchinhampton Old Course which is on common land. So in the summer, there are cows wandering around all over the place. And poo can be a little problem! I go along sometimes for the walk. I embellished with Typeset Title Stickers and Metal Flair Badges and then made a little cluster using a rub-on from Dear Lizzy Documentary, Puffy Stickers from Crate Paper Wonder, and Journey.

This next photo makes me laugh. I like it but I know that when I was taking it, I had seen someone doing something dodgy outside and I was angry lol! There’s not much to this one, just the photo and then another grid of paper. This time I used the Foundry and Quote papers. The Title is using some older Thickers and the Crate Paper Wonder, Corrugated Cardboard ones too. The ‘beauty’ word is from the ephemera pack and the large typewriter flair is from the Typeset Metal Flair Badges pack, it says lovely on the paper lol! I added a Resin Flower from Hey Little Magpie and layered it up on some punched shapes. I wrote my journalling under everything in white pen.

My last LO and I know you’ll be really surprised to see another grid! I used the Journal Cards paper specifically on this one cause I thought it looked a little bit like golf tees and then added a strip of Foundry cause I think I had it leftover from the LO above and it just worked, score! The chipboard hello comes from the Typeset collection and the Thickers are recent ones from the Maggie Holmes Shine collection. After I had my photo, papers and title on the LO, I didn’t think it really needed a lot more. I liked the funny title (well I thought it was funny anyway!) and I loved how it fit in my space perfectly – score again! So I just added one of the fabulous Glittered Paper Arrows from Pink Paislee Cedar Lane. I love those arrows, I had to wait for the second stock to arrive to get my hands on them too but it was worth the wait.

Last but not least, I did two cards for my Memorydex. I am still loving making a card for that here and there, it’s fun! I managed to get my hands on the Punch when it was restocked before Christmas and I am loving being able to quickly punch the notches out of the bottom. I have been making my cards from a box of American Crafts white 4×6″ cardstock and it is the perfect width for Memorydex cards. So I slice a bit off the cardstock to make it the right side, round the corners with my corner rounder and then punch the notches out of the bottom, job done. This first one could not be more simple but I just didn’t need anything more on it. I like to make the cards as sort of affirmations and then I do some journalling on the back, giving myself a little talking to lol! The ‘live’ on this one came from the Dear Lizzy Documentary collection, I am sure the Awesome Stuff tag came from the Sunkissed collection and the gorgeous Silver Puffy Heart Sticker is from Freckled Fawn and they are fabulous in real life, I know I’ll use these new silver and Gold Hearts a lot!

Last one and I used a sticker from the Typeset Title Sticker sheet on this one. I covered my card with the pretty aqua Crop Marks paper from Typeset, used a vellum diecut from the Sunkissed Ephemera pack and then mounted my sticker on top of a banner I cut myself, on foam pads for some extra height.

So that is what I created with the Sunkissed and Typeset collections from Basic Grey. I liked the graphic looks of these two collections and they do mix together well too.
Happy New Year to everyone, I’m hoping 2016 is a great year! I am currently in New Zealand, soaking up the sunshine and probably recovering from my NYE hangover right about now lol! I have bought the Crate Paper, Hello Love collection down to NZ with me to create my blog posts for February and March and I can not wait to get my hands on it! See you in February!
