Woodgrain, aqua, pink and gold.

Murphy @ 14 hours Crop 2
Do you have favourite colour combinations which you keep coming back to? I definitely do. I love woodgrain and aqua (including teal and turquoise) mixed with a touch of pink and gold. In fact swap the pink for red and that’s another go to for me, or replace those with black and white. Oh, how lovely and simple. Talking of simple, I am in love with the Simple Stories ‘Sn@p Basics’ collection and it’s seven, yes seven different woodgrain papers, oh joy!
Layout 1 – Murphy @ 14 Hours
Murphy @ 14 hours
My first layout uses a full 12×12 piece of Birch/White Grid paper as a background and a 4×6 photo mounted on foam of our puppy when he was just 14 hours old…sigh, how adorable is he? (Photo Credit – the owner of Murphy’s mum took the photo, not me). I added two strips of washi tape underneath the photo, the gold glitter is from the Fancy Pants Designs collection ‘Millie & June’ and the turquoise & gold spot is a Hey Little Magpie washi tape. You’ll see these two washi tapes used in my other layouts this month, love them! I dug into my Crate Paper ‘Little You’ collection for some ‘baby boy’ themed items, cutting the ‘Little One’ cut apart paper up to get the 3×4 ‘tiny little you’ tag and the ‘little one’ paper ribbon embellishment.

I added a title in matching aqua blue with the Fancy Pants Designs puffy alphabet stickers from the Attwell collection, but it didn’t have numbers so I used some from the Crate Paper ‘Little You’ puffy Starlight thickers pack. To finish the off layout I placed three cork glitter hearts in a triangle from the Pink Paislee ‘C’est la Vie’ collection and three black and white chipboard embellishments from the Crate Paper ‘Little You’ self-adhesive chipboard sheet. These little black and white embellishments match the colour of puppy Murphy in the photo.

Layout 2 – Sunset at Crooklets Beach
Sunset at Crooklets
My second layout again features a big piece of woodgrain paper, this one is ‘Chestnut/White Dot’ which I trimmed to 8″ tall , layered two 1″ strips of Shimelle ‘Rosetta’ paper from the Starshine collection under the top and bottom of the the woodgrain paper. The square photo is mounted on foam and the sunset photo is adhered directly on the paper. I added clusters of embellishments around the photos in a rough diagonal arrangement. The chipboard stickers are all from the Little You pack, the cork hearts are Pink Paislee and the washi tape is by Fancy Pants Designs and Hey Little magpie, the links are above. In addition to those items I also used scraps of another Shimelle Starshine paper ‘Hubble’ (text) from my stash and cut up a couple of papers from the Crate Paper ‘Hello Love’ 6×6 paper pad. The enamel dots are from the Little You collection, as is the cloud sticker both of which were in my stash.

I used gold glitter thickers for the title to match the gold in the washi tape and cork hearts, these are from the Maggie Holmes ‘Bloom’ collection. The script flair ‘Enjoy the Moment’ is an exclusive flair by Hey Little Magpie and also comes in this six pack. You’ll notice in this layout white and a hint of pink crept in and to me it just picks out those those three beach huts in the photo, which although are actually red look pink in the light of the setting sun.

Layout 3 – Murphy @ 9 Weeks
Murphy @ 9 Weeks
Layout three brings in a heap of pink, white and black, with just a little blue and although this layout is about our boy puppy Murphy, in the photo he’s sat on me and I’m wearing pink and red, so that totally justifies me using pink! Look how much he’d changed in 9 weeks, not just the size but the colouring too! I stacked the photo on top of trimmed and distressed pieces of paper from the Crate Paper ‘Hello Love’ 6×6 paper pad set at angles. The blue tag is actually cut from the ‘Little One’ cut apart paper (link above) mounted on foam pads and stapled at the end. The tags are from the Crate Paper ‘Hello Love’ layered tags pack and the cork heart is Pink Paislee (link above).

I made a visual triangle in black around the photo with the black heart on the tag and the black foam thicker title. The thickers I used were from my stash, but the new American Craft DIY Shop 4 ‘Weekend’ thickers would be a perfect substitute. I added some bakers twine to the tags from my stash, you can find alternatives here and finished the layout off with torn strips of washi tape (as used above), cut tags from the 6×6 paper pad and a small cork heart from the pack used above.

Layout 4 – Is it Time?
Is it Time
My final layout features a cute photo of Murphy waiting for his breakfast. Each morning, every few minutes he gets up (usually from my lap), walks a bit towards the cupboard where his food is kept, turns around, looks at me with the puppy eyes and makes a whimper as if to say “Is it time?”. Depending on what time he’s woken up that morning, this little routine of his will be repeated until the magic time of 7am comes round and it is actually time for breakfast! Anyway, getting back to the supplies… I used the Maple/Cream Notebook paper from Simple Stories this time as it was lighter and matched the kitchen floor better. Used Crate Paper ‘Little You’ Sweet Boy paper (B-side) for the top half and added a strip of Shimelle ‘Rosetta’ paper (linked above) over the join. I mounted the photo on to two trimmed papers from the Hello Love 6×6 paper pad and placed that on top of a large doily cut in two, the top portion of which I adhered to the bottom of the layout.

I embellished the layout with the washi tape and cork hearts I’d used previously, along with another label cut from the ‘Little One’ cut apart paper, puffy alpha stickers and chipboard stickers all from the Crate Paper ‘Little You’ collection (links above). Lastly I hand wrote the journaling directly on the woodgrain paper and added a script flair ‘Capture the Everyday’ (which can be bought in a 6 pack or on it’s own) to the washi tape cluster in the top right corner.
